I like Belkin. Linksys have given me nothing but problems. Well, that's not entirely true. Last year I setup a linksys for my boss (at the time) in Oregon and it's worked perfectly and given he knew next to nothing about computers, it must be fine if it still works and they've had no problems.
But our entire apartment complex (on campus) almost all the houses have wireless routers because the internet ports in our apartments are only downstairs and I've had a lot less headaches with the Belkin routers than the Linksys ones.

I suggest a Linksys WRT54G, regardless if you get the superbooster or not. I also suggest you get teh 54G nic from Linksys.
Personally I don't think the superboost is really worth it. YMMV (your miles may vary). |

I also use the Linksys 54G and it works fine with my Netgear USB on my laptop and pretty much everyone who comes over here to use Wi-Fi on their laptop. My wife's desktop's D-Link is a bit flaky sometimes, tho, so she has to reload.
It's 5-star compatible with Nintendo Wi-Fi, too ![]() SI

I've found the key is to get Access Points and WiFi cards all from the same company. So if you get a Linksys AP, get Linksys cards. In theory, because of standards, you can mix and match, but I've run into nothing but problems if everything isn't from the same vendor. Usually you have to run at the slowest speeds to get multiple vendors stuff to work together.
For the record, all my setup consists of D-Link products.

D-Link DGL-4300 By far the best and most under rated wireless router on the market. The interface is really easy to use and you can customize your traffic priority. Let's say you want to boost your VoIP traffic to get better quality? No prob. Let's say you are a downloader and a gamer and want to prioritize you gaming traffic so you don't lag? No prob. However, if you can wait, they just confirmed in Jan that they have officially accepted the 802.11n protocol, which can give wireless speeds of up to 600Mb/s (if I remember right).

No, most mainstream routers aren't all that different. Netgear is a mainstream router, as is most of the other ones mentioned. Netgear is a cheaper (but decent quality) solution but they aren't known for high quality solutions. Cisco is obviously the highest quality when it comes to routers, but most home users don't need a cisco router.

Sorry Linksys but I'm done with you.
It's Netgear from here on out. Simple, easy installation if you have DSL. I love it! |
