Battle for Middle Earth 2

Anyone here pick it up?

I have it and I think it is fantastic. Depending on your hardware it can be unstable though. Works great on my one computer and works terrible on my wifes computer.

more details about the fantasticity of it please. has the wonky stuff with the heroes and all been worked out? is there a reasonable degree of creative freedom?

i want it to be like R:TW in the Middle Earth Universe really...

I have not played the first one, so I can't comment on the hero stuff. The game does have a turn based mode (War for the Ring) that is on a world map, and you fight the battles. However, the action is difinately more traditional RTS (meaning there isn't a lot of tactical strategy in the battles).

The one thing I do like about the game is the epic feel of some of the monsters/units. Semi-spoiler here.........at the end of the end of the very first missions, a giant worm explodes out of the ground and sends half of my troops flying across the screen, and it was quite the bitch to bring down (and I have it on easy as I learn the game). I can only image things only get better from there.

Not exactly sure you'll get R:TW (the map is more like M:TW). More like a "dumbed-down" M:TW in Middle Earth.

Again, I have not messed around with it much and I do have it on easy so maybe you do need to pay more attention to tactics on the harder difficulty settings (but I still wouldn't expect anything near R:TW level of tactics you need). The thing I love about it so far is what I referenced earlier. The epic feel of some of the things I had to fight. Take down a few units of goblins, no problem, but WTF is throwing those huge fucking boulders at me!?!?

Plus, it's not just the simple "soldiers fight these, archers at a distance" typical stuff. There are different things units can do. Like Rangers can shoot fire arrows into wooded areas and set them on fire, killing most things in the area.

From what I have been reading, though, the Warhammer RTS coming soon is much more like R:TW (that's how it's been described).
