WBC - USA vs. Japan
Ichiro led off the game with a solo shot, but Peavy settled down to get out of the inning with no other damage.
Bottom of the 1st - Jeter just beat out a sac bunt to put guys on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Griffey up. |

This is a big spot here... man on 1st, 2nd - 2 outs, Ichiro up. Fuentes having some control issues.
Get him out!

That was just weird with the sac fly...
This'll lead to controversy. |

This is where people say the WBC is rigged for the US.

It seemed to me that there was a definite possibility that he left early...for such a shallow fly ball, the runner scored awfully easy.
edit - just saw the replay and I couldn't tell either way |

I tell you it's funny watching the Japanese broadcast.
They showed the replay like twice. Finally the color guy goes, "It doesn't look like he left early, huh?" Then they didn't mention it again. They just showed on the game-til-now recap and barely mentioned the controversy. They showed that the manager came out to chat about it with the ump. But there was nothing about how terrible the call was. |

Nope they only showed the screen-within-a-screen twice. When wells came up they mentioned it for the first time since that inning. BTW, terrible bunt. |

That was a bunting situation and it illustrates exactly why you should never bunt unless it's absolutely necessary or the defense is horribly out of position.
