Basic Instinct 2

So this thing is finally coming out in a few weeks, and i saw the trailer for the first time yesterday. All I gotta say is yuck. There is a difference between "looking good for your age" and "looking good." One of the fan sites for the movie had a couple outtake scenes, including a completely un-erotic group scene. For some reason I have a fond spot in my heart for the original, with it coming out when i was in High School. And the memories of a group of us sneaking into the theatre to see a "Hard R" movie.

I hadn't heard of this one. Good thing too, I might have shoved pencils into eyes.

Really fond of the first movies, but this is going to suck hugely.

I read somewhere that they are making this only because Sharon Stone was suing them for breech of contract and it was easier to just make the movie than just pay her.

I use adblock, so if it is the main ad that has been running in this place for the last 2 weeks, I apologize.

Oh dear.

I also hadn't heard of this, but Basic Instinct was a pretty good movie that really didn't need a sequel - it had a great ending.

It bugs me when a movie has an open ending, no matter how slight, and then they decide to film a sequel to it that robs the original ending of it's impact. The best example I can think of is Matrix. I loved the ending to the first one and didn't need to see the cliched battle against the 'droids... everyone knows who's going to win, and it's far better to leave it open and let the viewer walk away imagining what's going to happen next.

Having said that, I still haven't seen the third Matrix film. My desire to do so after the second film is incredibly small.

dont see the third matrix groundhog. it's HORRIBLE and it completely destroys the other two. i didn't believe that, picked up the third on the cheap and watched it...and believe me...it's true. It absolutely kills the mystery and the uncertainty of the first two with over-the-top crap piled on crap. stay away at all costs.

the Matrix sequels make me so sad when i think about them. why did you guys have to bring them up?

is it ok to pretend they never happened? the Matrix trilogy is one reason why i won't go see "V for Vendetta". also by the Wachowski Brothers. sorry, boys, you don't know how to tell a story. you've got enough of my money.

According to msnbc.com:

Quote:

Sharon Stone is not only doing a full-frontal nude scene in “Basic Instinct 2” — she says she also insisted that the footage should be “disturbing,” “threatening” and “brazen.”
Stone’s full monty occurs two-thirds into the flick, which is to be released later this month, though apparently a sex scene in the beginning of the movie is a bit of a hair-raiser, too. “I felt we should hold off on the full nudity for a while in the movie and then I thought that when I ultimately did do the nude scene it should be done in a startling way that would be disturbing and threatening,” Stone told London’s Evening Standard. “By the time the film is released, I will be 48 and I wanted to do the nudity in a way that’s quite brazen. I wanted her to be very masculine, like a man in a steam room, and I wanted the audience to have a moment where they realize she’s naked and then realize she’s a fortysomething woman and naked.”
Comments made earlier by the director make it sound like Stone wasn’t shy about asking for what she wanted. “Sharon is a strong-willed woman with many opinions — and she is not afraid of telling you what her opinion is,” Michael Caton-Jones said at the Glasgow Film Festival. “A lot of it was water off a duck’s back though, because I am very disciplined when I make a film.”

"I wanted the audience to have a moment where they realize she’s naked and then realize she’s a fortysomething woman and naked."

Audience - "My God, I see breasts! She's naked!"
Audience, 2 seconds later - "And they're down to her navel. She must be fortysomething."

This thread has made me laugh soo hard...those press clippings are stunningly funny for a serious press release

So making the movie would be cheaper than paying her off? Damn, wonder how much she'd sue for.

A better example than the Matrix was the Highlander series. At least there was more to come after the ending of The Matrix. Highlander flat out ended at the end of the first movie, no room for anything else...

Agreed. There should be a thread dedicated to the "Good God, Why in the hell did they make a sequel to this!?!?!" Movies.

I think one thing they forgot about in making the sequel is the advent of internet porn. The original is the product of a bygone era. Now I can see upskirt shots of my favorite celebrities simply by following links emailed to me by generous strangers.

I've got to admit that for one brief moment, I considered posting an upskirt shot of myself in this thread.
