This is kind of a stupid question, but how are the NCAA tournament seedings announced in TCB?

You can either watch a selection show or skip it and just check the brackets out.

Hey lurkers thinking of buying this game, version 1.4: You should do it. It's a quality product--as far as sims go, I put it in the same league as FM and EHM as regards enjoyability.

I have enjoyed the demo. My wife made a good point to me today, though. I have a lot going on academically right now. A new game would only hinder my progress.

Well, for that matter, so does FOFC.

Quick bump for the morning crowd to remind you that this promo ends at noon tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has come in to give it a shot at the discounted price - certainly if this promo generates a few more sales than we would have had I think we'll be inclined to try it again with our future titles. We appreciate the support and I especially appreciate the high praise of the King of NY - to be mentioned in the same league as FM and EHM is a massive compliment.

The immersion is there. True, FM and EHM are in a few respects farther along than TCB: the 2D display comes to mind, and FM's player/coach interaction is presently unequalled by any other sim.

But TCB matches up well with FM and EHM in the most important department: you really get a feel for your individual players' strengths and weaknesses. Figuring out how to utilize that power forward's passing talents; how to cover up for that shooting guard who has no interest in playing defence; how to get any sort of production out of that unathletic 7' 2" center: these problems are fun and interesting to deal with.

Recruiting is also a good challenge--and given your squad size, it's quite manageable. I really liked FBCB back in the day, but I inevitably hit on a recruiting formula that got me what I wanted every time. So far, that has not happened with TCB: I really have to scrap to get the guys I want, and I do not always succeed. There's just enough uncertainty in the scouting to give you a few unexpected booms and a fair number of busts, which is how it should be.

I know I could download the demo to get the answer to this question, but I figured I'd ask it anyways. How long does it take to get through a game with the 2d display? I've grown accustomed to getting through FM's 50-60 games/year and taking 5-10 minutes per game. Am I looking at taking an hour per game if I use the 2d display for TCB?

Depends what you want to do with the game. If you are just watching the action and set the control of your team prior to the game starting to CPU it doesn't take that long (and there is a speed setting so you can turn up the speed if you want). If you're going to actually sit down to coach the game, make adjustmens, subs etc you'll probably spend 30-40 mins on a game but its all going to depend on how many coaching adjustments you feel you need to make and how much control you want over your subs. If you don't make many adjustments and turn on the auto-sub control you'll get done quicker than that.

I watch it with speed set at 7-8/10. I usually only call timeouts and make halftime adjustments. Each game takes about 5 minutes. (I will speed up the game if it is not close)

I watch most of the important games and always the first game of the season. I turn on auto-subs and turn off pause at stoppages. I also use a speed of 8 and the game flows quite nicely.

How come when you have offensive freedom frequency set to 0%,
it sometimes shows current play: NONE on the bottom of the play by play screen?

Shouldn't it run my offensive sets that I pick in team strategy?

Well it just means that for whatever reason they're not running the set on that play. Could be that the defense switched sets so now they're confused or that some players out there don't have very high proficiency in the set so they're just kind of doing their own thing or that they decided to push the ball up the court anyway even though you told them you don't want them to. Even if you tell your team to slow it down and run sets every time there's going to be times when the players push the ball up the court

I'm in.

Looks like it is going to be much more challenging than I suspected. I started off with Marshall, with hopes of moving up the ladder eventually to WVU, and really struggled with recruiting--eventually running out of money.

I haven't played enough to know if the results of recruiting are going to be "great," but I like the immersion of following players to camps, watching them in games, and, basically, just hounding them to see if I have a shot with them. I think I will enjoy this one--particularly over the next few weeks of March Madness.

Aw Critch, I wasn't ignoring you - just figuring out how I would feed my family unless I made $16 million off the game. Cutting the price another 15% would have cut into the grocery budget man

Does the new patch affect saved seasons? Or do I need to restart a season? After installing the new patch, I still notice that power conferences are still being bunched up in the same region. In one region, the top three seeds were big east teams, and, in another, an acc team played an acc team in the first round.

There's no need to restart seasons after a patch. Im still working on the patch that is going to attempt the issue of conference teams playing each other in the first round

I just tried the demo again, but I still can't get into it. Am I missing something or is recruiting way too time consuming and tedious? It seems like I spend more time filling two scholarships in TCB than I do filling 20 in BBCF. Just going through the screens to watch my 10 game films every week seems to take forever because you have to do a few clicks for each selection. And then I wasn't sure if I had to keep recruiting after I got verbals. So, I did as a precaution which took even more time. It just seems like a whole lot of clicking to do very little.

While I may be a bit biased given my relationship with Grey Dog, I have played this game more then any other I have since mid-way through the beta to now.

I play out each game (5-15 minutes for each depending on how close the game is I play with speed set to 9) and really get into it. One of the things that helped me get used to who is who on the 2d was to record wave files of my teams names, putting those in the sounds folder will cause the announcer to say your players names after they score during home games (helps early in a career when all 12 guys are new).

Easily my number one most enjoyable game since Thanksgiving or so (during beta).

Quick questions:

1. Can you heavily recruit a player and he decides to go to the NBA, like the situation with Louisville and Telfair?

2. Do players on your team declare early for the draft?

3. Does the game tell you where your players are drafted and does having alot of NBA players affect your coaching reputation with recruits?

4. Is there a bubble watch?

5. Are there transfers can players become disgrutled with lack of playing time and such.

Thanks

John, I've played BBCF too, and recruiting is much more labor-intensive in BBCF than in TCB, I think. To cut down on the grunt work in TCB, try the following: 1) Game films are useful when you are first sizing up players to bring to campus, but after you have watched film on a guy for three weeks or so, there's no need to do it any more--by that point, you'll be attending their games, bringing them to your campus, etc. 2) Once I get verbals, I stop recruiting. There is a fair amount of clicking at the start of each new recruiting session, but once you have added a load of players to your watch list, it moves a lot faster.

TOSU, I can answer four and five for you: yes and yes. The bad news about the transfer sessions--and this is one of the few gentle criticisms that I have of the game--is that the game slows down considerably at that point. The good news, though, is that I have found the number of players transferring into and out of my program to be just about right. Each player has a rating for the amount of playing time that he expects. If you wind up with two guys at the same position who think that they should be playing 30+ minutes, one of those guys is probably going to leave. I cannot answer questions 1, 2, and 3, because I play with lower-tier programs--no pros come out of those schools.

Haven't you heard of Greg Oden? HS kids have to spend a year in college now, it is the same in TCB. Players do declare early for the NBA.

I tried the Demo one time but it kept crashing on me, is the demo updated with the newest patches or not? If so I may give it another go. Also if someone could answer the questions King of New York couldnt I would appreciate it.
