What are the text-based sports sims you play ?

Not necessarily "these days" only but the games you have installed on your PC and that you like to fire up either regularly or every once in a while (for instance I pretty much only play TCY in the summer...don't know why...and FOF the rest of the way).

Me it's:
- FOF2 for the solo careers
- FOF2004 for the IHOF
- TCY

I'd like to give a show somedays to the latest FM game though..

Just FM and sometimes FOF2004. I'd really like to find a baseball game that captures my imagination one of these days. I like parts of OOTP and PureSim but haven't yet been hooked by either.

At the moment FOF2k4, OOTP, and FBCB for my multiplayer leagues. I'll start playing BBCF once the FOFC league gets rolling. I've frankly gotten board with single player text sims and prefer to concentrate on multiplayer.

In the past six months, I've actively played TPB 2005, SAT, and EHM and I think that's about it for p.c. sports games.

I've tried to get into OOTP numerous times, but just can't for whatever reason....I'd like to try EHM and TCB, but haven't had enough time.

I've been playing FM exclusively for over a year and a half, in fact since November 2004, when FM2005 came out.

Don't know why but I'm getting the itch to maybe try a new one (well I do know why, got more time than I had before ). If not for my total lack of basketball knowledge (honestly), I'd almost be tempted to pick up TCB with the special they have going on. EHM is also very high on the list of possible games in the future...

FOF 2k4, but only for IHOF
FM by far the most.
TCY for a week at a time every six months
Hopefully TCB will catch my attention too

For me, it is very important to have both single-player careers and multi-player ones going on at the same time...it really couldn't be just multi-player without solo-player.

FM is the only one that I've spent any significant time with in the last year or so. Nothing else has held my interest for very long. I think FM has spoiled me on text sims because all the things it does so well are the things I enjoy the most.

Edit: As far as installed on the computer, just about every one that's out there. FM, TCY, TCB, FOF, BBCF, BM, EHM, TPB, TPF, OOTP, any other abbreviation you can think of...

The only one I've played at all within the last year or so has been EHM.

I bought FM 2005, but I just never found the time to get into. I love those games, but they are a major investment in time and once I get started... it aint pretty. I decided to invest in EHM and have been happy that I did. I know it's still pretty far behind the amazing FM series, but the fact that it's hockey is enough to compensate. I have nothing against soccer and I played the hell out of the last few CM games (back in 01-03 or so), but time has forced me to choose and I chose hockey.

I am sure that I will play the next version of FOF. I had a blast with the last one. Never did get into TCY.

And that's why it's on my shortlist of possible addition to my gaming experience. I've grown up with hockey, played hockey a long time, then spent years as a refereee and if one sport sim could bring me back to a sport I used to love, I think it's the one...

I only play OOTP. I've mentioned a couple of times to Vince that I'd like to get into FOF, but I've heard its incredibly time consuming compared to OOTP and with my work schedule and such, I just don't know if I have the time to play both.

I own FOF2k4 and FBCB but I havent played them in months. I tried to get into FOF a few weeks ago but my attention span was not great. Maybe over spring break I'll try again.

TCB has had my exclusive attention over the last 2-3 weeks. I am trying to catch up to the corresponding season in my TPB 2005 league. I am still waiting for a more stable BBCF before I give that a whirl.

EHM is the only I've played in the past few months.

I pre-ordered OOTP7 tho...almost solely on the strength of how engrossing EHM was for me. And I never pre-order..

I haven't played FOF in ages and I can't run TCB or any of those games.

I've been messing around a lot with console games of late, which contributes to the demise of my text-simming.

In order of frequency played:

FBCB
FBB

I haven't fired up FOF in a long while, and TCY keeps crashing whenever I try and sim the first week of a season. I've played the demo of BBCF (really liked it, despite what others have said, and am on the fence but leaning towards purchase. Would do so straight away if there was a solid pro game to export college graduates to) and TCB (thought it looked like a good game, but I'm too comfortable and happy with FBCB to switch, plus i have a long running dynasty in FBCB and no urge to start up another with a new game).

I was going to grab Gary's pro basketball game too, but the inability to import players from my FBCB dynasty has held me back. If there was an easy way to enter in player's college stats and generate ratings like in FBB I'd probably make the switch, but from what I understand when you create the rookie file you have to enter in the actual ratings themselves.

TCB & TPB for single player. Haven't played FOF in a long time, or OOTP. Waiting for the new versions of those. BBCF too, just waiting for the 1.1 patch before I play it again.

I still have TPF installed for a multiplayer league that's just starting it's 7th season. I don't think I've ever played it single player.

i need to pickup TPB 2005 again. I just figure the day that I do Gary will announce that TPB 2006 is upon us and I will lose all desire to play. I don't even have it installed on this machine, I'd hafta get the elicense off my old machine, which just seems like so much...work. LOL

Just really impressed with how many people love FBCB, and how nice of a job HR did on the game. There are alot of loyal folks who love that game. I notice I read where many people, like myself, do not even really like basketball, but like FBCB. Much the same has been said about FM. Too bad someone couldn't grab HR and use his immense programming skills.

I think there was a poll here a couple of years ago of "best/favorite" programmers and Brian came out on top. Even though the game is not perfect (e.g., Asst Coaching phase), its simple yet very deep and addictive gameplay reminds me of many Sid Meier's games. I think companies like Solecismic and Grey Dog can learn the lesson from Brian of not needing to throw in everything, including the kitchen sink, into their games. But as we have discussed recently, I think there is a segregation in this genre of a sort between the (generally-speaking) "immersive" slow-simming games (FM) and the "one-more-turn" fast-simming games (FBCB). Maybe it really does come to the sport: football/soccer more inducive to slow-simming vs baseball/basketball.

Bingo. FBCB may be missing things to make it a 100% accuarte college basketball simulator (ie. transfers, player personalities, players declaring early in the season), but just about everything in their right now works to near perfection. The engine, results, record tracking, etc. etc. It's a basketball geek like me's dream come true!

Some people may love the flash of games like TPB with the modern looking layout, SFX and bells and whistles, but I personally prefer ease and speed of use. I look at text sims to provide a fantasy universe that I can produce realistic results in. I look at games like NBA Live for a graphical representation of the sport and all those bells and whistles.

Having said that, I have no problem with a game looking pretty and having features like sound effects and player portraits and the like. If FBCB was released with these features - and it did not in any way hinder it's current easy and quick interface - I would probably have a week-long orgasm. I just think that it's very difficult for the small development teams working on these titles to put together a game that is great at both.

While I certainly have more installed on my comp, these are the five text-based sims that get any real regular play from me.

FBCB I'll fire up every once in a while on my old laptop, but the thing that bugs me about that game is you reach a certain level of prestige and then it just stops being fun.

Definately, but I think that's bound to happen with any college sim, because it's not like you have to worry about a salary cap or anything; you can just keep signing the best guys in the nation each year. To counter this I just coach a low-prestige team, raise it up until it starts to become too easy for me to have fun, and then I resign from that school and take another job at a low tier school.

The only one I actively play is FOF2k4. I've tried to play OOTP countless times, but honestly I just dont think it is very fun at all. I do play OOTP online though. I was thinking of restarting a TPB career again, I just have an awful hard time figuring out how to improve my team. Once the "real" players retire, it gets even more difficult for me.

I loved FBCB it is a great game. I am currently playing TCB and in my opinion it is equal to or better then FBCB in just about every way, except conference movement. I think both statistical models are very good, but I really enjoy the 2d view that TCB gives. Recruiting is well done in both products.

Anyway, I was just curious if you have played TCB. FBCB was my favorite basketball game for a long time till TCB came out. With that being said, I wish HR would make another FBCB version.

Damn, really? Maybe it's just because I know baseball so much better than I know football, but I can zip through OOTP in no time flat. The only irritating thing is setting up my depth chart four different times. Ugh.
