New series on sci-fi tonight. Loved the original, but I think the inevitable darkening of the stories will do it some good. Anyone else excited about it?

I am. Thanks for reminding me it started tonight. The original was my favorite show when I was a kid.

Is it a full series or just a mini-series?

It's a very enjoyable season, in my opinion. Eccleston is a great Doctor.

I'm looking forward to it. I'll be TIVOing it, but I don't know when I'll have a chance to watch it - I still have tons of BSG episodes to catch up on.

BTW, it looks like there are 2 WHO episodes on tonight back to back, so make sure you catch both of them.

According to my Tivo, it is a 2 hour episode, and then it is immediately replayed.

Ah. On my Comcast DVR guide, it's broken up into 2 one-hour episodes. And then they replay both of them.

full series. they are running the second season in England right now. Or soon will be. Anyway, as long as they make them, hopefully sci-fi will show them.

Ok, thanks. I obviously need to pay closer attention to the commercials because I dismissed this thinking it was just another mini-series.

I enjoyed Dr. Who in the Tom Baker era, but I was never able to really get into any of the other versions. Hopefully this one will change that for me.

I'm wondering as well since Hurricane Katrina completely disrupted my recording/watching of Season 2 and I want to catch-up.

excellent debut!! the humor is less subtle than the old series, but the assistant is hotter, so I'll take the changes with a smile.

Just wanted to bump since the next episode is on tonight. The guy from this season looks like a great doctor. Unfortunately, a friend of mine said he only lasted one season. I haven't tried to verify for want of avoiding spoilers

Sachmo, I agree. This is the hottest assistant I can remember. My only complaint is that the music was too loud at times in the debut episode and it made it hard to hear the dialogue (only for a few minutes.) I really hope that isn't the case about this Doctor only lasting for a year. From the episodes I've seen (Mrs. Eaglesfan and I caught up on them all last night) I like this Doctor.

Ok, so apparently Billie Piper is England's Brittany Spears. My plan is to knock up a member of her dance troupe, cornrow my hair, and become a "P-I-M-P".
I should be getting her up with baby in a year and a half.

Just figured I'd give this a shameless bump as we're getting towards the end of the season with a two parter, one this Friday and one the next.

This has easily been my favorite new show of the year- tremendously enjoyable throughout with a great balance of crazy episodic stuff and now we're building some mytharc with the "Bad Wolf" thing (supposedly it's been in every episode- my friends and I who watch it have only found it in 5 episodes, tho).

And, by that token, anyone who has seen it or knows what it coming, could you hold off on the spoilers until 2 weeks from now when we've all had a chance to see them.

Thanks in advance for holding off spoilers! Was there a new episode this past Friday? I just realized my DVR box didn't record an episode this past Friday night.

The second season has already started in England. Over 8 million viewers. A huge hit in it's come back.

Last Friday was not a new episode.

And no spoilers. As some out there know the future story lines, they should be kept under raps.

Thanks Gallifrey. Glad to know I didn't miss anything. I just double checked and the TIVO is set for this Friday night.

Now that I think of it...if they go the entire first season and never mention the name of the Doctor's home planet...

well I will be angry!

Yeah, last week I had my VCR (you know, those things from the days of yore, before TIVO) set up to tape and it got an hour of some crappy made-for-SciFi movie.

Spoilers below (since it's now aired)- tho I've tried to keep them to a minimum...

Some random musings:

Anyone else not satisfied with the Bad Wolf explaination? I wanted something bigger and, well, badder. I'm hoping Rose just misinterpreted what was going on and it is part of a much bigger conspiracy.

The great thing about massive time travel plots is that nothing is ever set in stone. I can't wait to see the Daleks again tho supposedly they won't be around in season 2- but that, of course, remains to be seen.

David Tennant has gigantic shoes to fill as Christopher Eccleston was positively brilliant as the Doctor and I'm sure I'll find myself saying "man, I wish he were still the Doctor" for most of season 2.

I've downloaded all of season 2 that's been aired. The new Doctor does quite a good job, though I still like Christopher Eccleston better, to be honest.
