IWS #30 (I'm With Stupid) - Deadline Wednesday

Author's Notes

I kept with the basic format that sterlingice used for #29, and similarly to sterlingice I hadn't played or known about the "I'm With Stupid" contest until #29 and suprisingly got 100%. I asked around about the contest so I hope I do everything right. The following info is directly copied from IWS #29, and is merely background information (NOTE: The info about this particular IWS is at the bottom):

RULES

Again this is copied from IWS #29 and those rules were copied from previous versions of the game.

The object of this contest is to answer the questions posted below, and to provide the most common answer among those submitted.

For each question, your score will be equal to the number of people who submitted that response. Your score for the contest will be the product of your individual question scores. Highest score wins.

Send your entries by private message to me, Joe Canadian, via the FOFC board. I will also accept answers via e-mail at [email protected]. If you are sending your answers via e-mail you must add the subject IWS #30. If this is not the subject listed it will not count. Also, if I run out of space on my private message system, only those actually received will be considered. Entries must be submitted by 7:00 PM (EST) on February 5, 2003!!!!!!!

There aren’t many rules or clarifications necessary, but here are those I can think of:

No collaborating in any way. No posting your answers to this board, nor sharing them by email or in any other way with other potential contestants.

All determinations of “matches” and anything else requiring judgment fall to the sole administrator of this puzzle. There will be no appeals or contesting of the results – the single judge’s decisions are final. You can, however, reduce the need for doubt and judgment on my part by properly spelling your submissions, being clear, that sort of thing. Anything that gives me clear and precise knowledge of how to determine whether your answer is the same as another answer is very helpful both to me and to you. (Answering “Cincinnati Bengals” is probably clearer than answering “Cincinnati,” for instance)

However...Your answers do not necessarily have to be correct in order to score points. If I ask “name a color of the rainbow” and you and four other people responded “black” - you get five points, period, even if it is not technically a correct answer to the question.

The winner of this contest will become the host of the next "I'm With Stupid” Contest. If he chooses not to host the contest, the next highest placing participant who wishes to host may do so. In the event of a tie, one winner will moderate, and all winners will have the option to contribute questions.

The winner(s), of course, also retain the right to have their screen names published as past winners of the contest for all future versions. And that's nothing to sneeze at, I'll tell you.

A list of links to past IWS Contests can be found here: Past Contests

And the answers to IWS #29 can be found here: IWS #29 Answers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm With Stupid 30

Lets try for relativly high participation- lets attempt to break the 40 mark which has not been reached since IWS #11. As well as PMs, you can also submit entries via email to [email protected] . Make sure you have the topic "IWS #30" or it doesn't count! I'll take Emails and PMs!

Now for the moment you all have been waiting for: IWS 30! What I did with this version was put together questions that have something to do with my interests. So without wasting anymore time... It's IWS 30: "Joe Canadian Edition".

Questions

1. Name a novel written by John Grisham.
2. Name a member of the “Dave Matthews Band” other than Dave Matthews.
3. Name a natural resource.
4. Name a member of George W. Bush’s senior staff.
5. Name a character, NOT actor, in the movie “The Usual Suspects.”
6. Name an “American Hockey League” franchise. (include city & nickname)

Good Luck Everyone! And if you haven't played before or for a while- PLAY! NOW!! What do you have to lose?

Good Luck,
Joe Canadian

EDIT : Please post a msg. once you have sent your answers. This was I can make sure I don't lose any answers. Something to the effect of "Answers Sent" will due just fine.

I don't fare well with these, so I chose the "pick while half drunk" method. we'll see if that works.

I am not able to answer three of these questions without looking them up. Which means I havce no knowledge and therefore, no common ground with which to figure out what others might likely say.

Hell, I could only answer three off the top of my head (I hope I used the right definition of senior staff- typically I think of a president having a cabinet or white house staff) but I don't think everyone knows these off the top of their head either. Then again, all of us randoms will make it more interesting

If you haven't posted an answer set- you had best have rabid weasels tearing at your sofa or something like that.

Remember, deadline is Wednesday!!! While I hoped for 30-40 participants, I'd be happy if we could break the 20 mark, currently we've got 14. Thinking back at it I would of used more general/common questions, instead of those that some people need to look up to actually find the answers.
