360 Lockups

I have a 360. I love the games. I get lockups with NBA 2k6, College Hoops and Madden. Call of Duty and Gun never lockup. Is it the system or the games?

I have the warenty at Best Buy, I think i'm going to wait a few more months then go and return it for a new one.

Could be the games. Check the discs for scratching.

Could also be the system. Keep in mind, you use that warranty, your new system won't be covered. You'll have to fork over another $50 to get 2 year coverage on the new 360 as well.

Not sure if this affects you, I know very little about the 360:

I've heard rumors that the first wave of X-Box 360s had inadequate cooling in them, causing lock-ups. Also that they fixed that in the next waves

I have a launch 360. I've had zero lockups except for the aforementioned spot in Madden with the Jets-Pats game (I think) with downloaded rosters.

Burnout Revenge locked up on me last night while I was playing online, but it was a rental copy of the game. For all I know, the last person who rented the game might have nicked it up a bit. I have had lockups from time to time, but it hasn't been too bad.

College Hoops is brand new. Not a scratch on that thing.

Is there a way to tell what generation you have? Can you open the box and see a difference?

I haven't locked up at all. Can't think of the term, but what "system bios" are you guys using? I'm not connected to Live, but I updated my system with the December update.

I also heard that a small percentage of the initial release consoles had the cooling problems. Since it's happening on a lot of different games, it sounds more like a console problem than problems with multpile game discs.
