Question Would you go after one of these middies?

Okay, I've documented the retooling of my midfield pretty well over the last few weeks but I'm ahving some ideas over two players I see coming back on the transfer list over and over.

Here are the two possible additions to my Dragon roster:
Quote:
Bo Top (29403787)
25 years, passable form, healthy
I speak Nederlands!

A pleasant guy who is calm and righteous.
Has weak experience and inadequate leadership abilities.

Nationality: Canada
Total Skill Index (TSI): 117 380
Wage: 123 360 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Brighton Seagulls
Warnings: 0
Injuries: Healthy

Stamina: excellent Goalkeeping: disastrous
Playmaking: extra-terrestrial Passing: solid
Winger: poor Defending: wretched
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: poor

and

Quote:
Jarvis Ornelas (11715812)
27 years, excellent form, healthy
A popular guy who is balanced and honest.
Has inadequate experience and weak leadership abilities.

Nationality: Canada
Total Skill Index (TSI): 163 750
Wage: 192 432 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: 10 pond grutten!
Warnings: 1
Injuries: Healthy

Stamina: formidable Goalkeeping: disastrous
Playmaking: mythical Passing: excellent
Winger: poor Defending: wretched
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: weak

Here's the guy I would have to sell to be able to afford either of them:
Quote:
Stipo Jerin (30131594)
23 years, solid form, healthy
A controversial person who is fiery and upright.
Has weak experience and weak leadership abilities.

Nationality: Hrvatska
Total Skill Index (TSI): 90 290
Wage: 110 496 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Cerio's Dragons FC
Warnings: 1
Injuries: Healthy

Stamina: excellent Goalkeeping: disastrous
Playmaking: extra-terrestrial Passing: poor
Winger: poor Defending: inadequate
Scoring: wretched Set Pieces: wretched

He is younger than either of them but I'm not too concerned about that. The increase in passing is what I'm looking for, to help my central attack.

As you can see, both of the possible new guys are Canadian.

Top has the coolest name of all and is currently on the market for 5.5M U$. Has been listed with starting prices in the vicinity at least two or three times in the last month or so.

Ornelas is a bit older but has better passing, more experience and is also an increase in playmaking over Jerin. He just got relisted for 5.3M U$.

Getting Top would mean some savings in wages while Ornelas would mean I'd push my wage total a bit higher, by about 30k U$ (about 80k U$ without the 20%).

After selling my latest winger trainee (supernatural winger Haddad) for 3.5M U$, and with the latest big home game, I got a figure of 4M U$ showing up in what I'll have at the next weekly update. This means I would have to list Jerin and get at least one bid at 1.5M U$ to be able to afford either of them. I don't think this should be very hard to get.

Top's deadline is tomorrow at 4:55 pm eastern and Ornelas just got listed and his deadline is the middle of the our night on the 23rd... I would not be online for either deadline (driving back home on Top's and sleeping on Ornelas's) so I'd need some luck and no cheap ass last minute bid from anybody although I think they are listed a fair bit high so if I decide to get either of them, I'd probably be the only one bidding...

That's pretty much what it is, what do you think, should I go for either of them? And if so, who's the most "attractive" to you and why?

I'd buy Jarvis. His wages are not bad for a player of that caliber, and they'll keep going down.

you'd make him a "forever on the team" kind of guy? or at least until he's, say 33 or 34?

I agree about the wages not being that bad, especially since he's Canadian, that would help me...

Thanks Tim, appreciate it.

Just in case anybody doesn't understand what's meant by "loan", he'd put the starting bid at 1.5M on my middie, giving me the money I'd need to go after my guy, knowing full well that an extra-terrestrial middie will sell for far more than $1.5M.

He's got a lot of room to drop in skill before he becomes useless. He'll be a solid item on any squad for quite a few more seasons.

So...yeah. I'd keep him till he hit his early 30's easily. He'll re-sell for a decent (not great, but decent) price even then, especially with that passing.

yeah. I used to have to rely on selling guys in order to replace them, as is the case to some extent now but planned over many seasons, I could see buying him and replacing him at 33 after planning it out in advance...

Now my main concern is that there's no way I'll be online when is time is up. If for some reason somebody outbids me and Jerin is on his way out, I could be left without a solid third middie for next Sunday (and maybe more if I want to wait for a good passer).

Where I stand right now, I will wait to see if Bo Top sells tomorrow before making a definite decision on if I list Jerin or not...

I guess I'm in the minority, but I prefer Bo Top due to the wages and age difference. You've retooled your midfield quite a bit and your wages are already quite high so I'm not sure you need to dump another mess on it, particularly a 27yo one.

for now, I'm pretty much set on making a one time bid on Jarvis (one time since he'll come to deadline while I'll be sleeping). Bo Top's deadline passed today and he didn't sell. I fully expect him to show back up on the transfer list, possibly as soon as tomorrow.

As for Stipo Jerin, I will transfer list him tomorrow with a starting price of $1.5M (ping finketr, or anybody who can put in the opening bid to give me the cash to bid on Jarvis).

SI, that's a valid concern, re: wages, although I think I can handle them at my level. I like Jarvis for all the little plusses he has over Top: better pm, better passing, better experience. Yeah, he's older and isn't as coolly named as Top though

thanks!

You also have an HT-mail.

For everybody's information, Jarvis's deadline has been pushed back 6 hours, now falling to 16:39 HT-time, or 10:39 eastern, probably because of the planned downtime tomorrow morning. Anyway, this means I'll be online for when the deadline will come... We shall see...

As of now, Bo Top remains unlisted.

Well, for better or for worse, at least for the time being, Jarvis Ornelas is now a Dragon

We'll see how we survive with the wages, for now, we'll keep on pushing for a possible title in division II and a shot at the All Canadian, where we'd quite possibly get killed, but we'll keep on trying

remember when I asked about Jarvis and Bo? well, I still had Bo Top in my bookmarks and I just saw that he was just relisted and wow, the kid has grown some more, look at this:

Quote:
Bo Top (29403787)
26 years, passable form, healthy
I speak Nederlands!

A pleasant guy who is calm and righteous.
Has weak experience and inadequate leadership abilities.

Nationality: Canada
Total Skill Index (TSI): 142 690
Wage: 209 472 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Brighton Seagulls
Warnings: 0
Injuries: Healthy

Stamina: excellent Goalkeeping: disastrous
Playmaking: mythical Passing: solid
Winger: poor Defending: wretched
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: poor

That 209472C$ in wages would be 174560C$ to me without the 20%.

The guy I signed at the time, Jarvis Ornelas now looks like this:
Quote:
Jarvis Ornelas (11715812)
28 years, solid form, healthy
A popular guy who is balanced and honest.
Has passable experience and weak leadership abilities.

Nationality: Canada
Total Skill Index (TSI): 159 290
Wage: 170 520 C$/week
Owner: Cerio's Dragons FC
Warnings: 0
Injuries: Healthy

Stamina: formidable Goalkeeping: disastrous
Playmaking: mythical Passing: excellent
Winger: poor Defending: wretched
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: weak

kind of interesting to compare them both now, about a month later

I still like Jarvis's extra level of passing and two levels of experience. He gave me 8 stars yesterday while Bo Top's best performance ever with his current team is 7 stars.

But Bo has a cooler name.

But I think the extra levels in passing and experience will continue to give you better performances at, it would seem, a lower salary point.

I'd go with the younger guy just because 28 is getting towards too old. Then again, I think 26 is getting towards too old to buy key cogs to your team.
