Music: Favorite Live Bands Thread
As I get ready to go see Comeback Kid and First Blood in a few weeks I was wondering everyones thoughts on their favorite bands to see live are.
Mine starts and ends at Bane. I'd try to sum it up in words but it cannot be done, but here's a video of what their shows are like. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xJMBxIOocok&search=hellfest Anyway, who do you guys love seeing live? |

For me it "was" a local band from Minneapolis called Tina & the B-Sides. They are no longer, however. Another favorite was Ben Folds Five.
Man, I need some new bands.

The Flaming Lips.
Mars Volta were exciting too, but their music has not managed to hold my interest at all.

I did sessions with Tina's bass player and guitar plays a few times. Rush is number one for me. I am biased though. Pantera was a good one live...the 3 times I saw them. GnR was a trip too. Dream Theater was good but its certainly an acquired taste.

sorry dude. When I go to a show, I expect to be able to see the guys I am giving money to. The band seems 'ok' but they are not the greatest 'hardcore' band out there. Maybe it's a musician thing...being able to watch the band and not some punks trying to be cool and stage dive...just to be seen.

While I hear that side of the argument, I basically am all for being with the band I paid money for. Sitting there watching them play is like sitting there listening to their CD. I love being a part of the show and the atmosphere. But I understand your argument. Hardcore isn't about the music as much as the atmosphere. |

Yeah I like DEP. Used to love em but they really did ruin the scene. It just seemed to change too much into tough guy BS at their shows at least the ones I was at. |

Sleater Kinney was also amazing last time around. Frank Black when he fronted his band and played at shank hall in Milwaukee.

....And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
Ok, I saw them once at the Fillmore in San Francisco. They dominate for about 45 mins/an hour, and then they tear apart the whole stage. The lead singer Conrad Keely shatters a half-full bottle of wine against the back wall of the stage. After about 2 minutes of destruction, they finally stop...Conrad asks the audience "Does anyone know where the bass drum pedal is?" It gets found, and they continue playing for another half hour. Download the song "Homage" for a hard fast one or "It was there that I saw you" for another hard one with a slow buildup in the middle

Avenged Sevenfold System of a Down Dropkick Murphys I'm not a huge fan of the hardcore intentionally hurting people type thing you might go to a Slipknot concert for, but at the same point I don't have much fun sitting there or just standing in front of a seat. 2 "rappers" I've seen live - Matisyahu and Kanye kicked ass in concert too. |

I have to say my buds Kritickill. I have a handfull of videos I made from a show last year on my website. My camcorder mic was way overdriven so I sync'd the video up with the CD versions of the songs. On the "Shift" one I did some special effects, some look good, some crappy.
http://www.texgamer.com/modules.php?...download&cid=1 They are currently in studio recording their 3rd independant album and are in talks with some Virgin execs. So, hopefully they get signed fairly soon.

They Might Be Giants puts on a great live show. Grant Lee Phillips was another great show that I saw a couple of years ago.
Most disappointing had to be the last Chainsaw Kittens show I saw. Drunken band members, horrible sound. Just bleah all around.

In no particular order:
The Dirty Three The Flaming Lips Nirvana (though, uh, they no longer would be my favorite to see live )Radiohead The White Stripes (or at least the Jack White portion) Yo La Tengo I'd also give a shout out to two solo performers (not bands) who give incredible shows: Tori Amos Chan Marshall (Cat Power) Last edited by NoMyths : 03-21-2006 at 04:36 PM. |

The most beautiful music I have ever heard live was performed by the early 90's band My Bloody Valentine. I was totally deaf for about a day and a half after the show, but it was worth it.

Oops...
The Who in 89 was great. The Who in 96 was better. Like I said on my myspace blog, John is my 2nd fav bass player. Seeing him play live was stunning.

Just a little side story. Pantera was the "house" band of the club my friends and I went to growing up. It was a room about 1000 square feet. We thought they were great, but never considered them anything other than local. I bet we saw them 100 times. That seems a lifetime ago.

Ya know, I am looking at a few of these videos and wondering how many were shot at Joe's Garage on Hwy 80 in Fort Worth. They sure look like alot were. Wow, I bet myself and about 20 of my tow headed friends were there thinking it was the coolest thing we ever saw.

Wow, I just had a flashback of being a hick who didn't take drugs or drink walking into this place. This was Joe's Garage. Now gone. I bet I was here this night.
