Looking for a utility
Hey all. Looking for a *FREE* (not just a free to try) program that will convert a text file into an mp3 file using text to speech. Does anyone know of one? I've done some searching and only found quite a few shareware programs. Shareware would be ok if you know that it either has no restrictions, or the restrictions on it are not going to be a big problem for what I want to do:
What I want to do is make a big mp3 file of my TCB play-by-play files and listen to them on my ipod on my way to work. It may not be interesting, but then again, it might. If it is, I may even write a utility that would convert the play-by-play text to more natural and varied languauge. It's just a thought. Anyway, any help? |

That is a key feature. Any software that has mp3 output working? Last edited by MJ4H : 03-20-2006 at 07:44 PM. |

Convert what? What does it output to? Wav? I didn't see the ability to output to any format. Only to read it aloud.

wait, sorry, it actually is a bit more complicated. Start audacity. Click record. Then tell sayzme to read the text. When it is done, stop audacity and export to mp3. sorry, its been a while since i've messed around with it.

No that is not what I want to do. That would defeat the entire purpose. I need it to output directly to an mp3 file. Any help? |

Hrm... very interesting idea... I hope someone can help you with an application because I'd like to try this with FBCB.

Looks like I may have found one. Initially I thought I was hosed again, but Speakonia appears to do what I want. When I first tried to export, it said you had to REGISTER it, but apparently registering is free. More to come.

It is very slow. I am still converting the second half of my last game to wav. I think it is recording it in real time. This might not be a good idea after all.

Ok this is actually pretty cool. It is hilarious because when there is a foul, it is written FOUL! in the play-by-play and the text2speech spells out F-O-U-L when it sees that. Really it is somewhat interesting to listen to. I might try this for the conference/ncaa tournament games or something. Not sure, but it might work. If there were a quicker utility to do this it would be a lot better. Also, I wonder if there is a way to output the pbp to text so I don't have to copy-paste it while trying to avoid seeing scores.
If I had those things, I would almost definitely write a utility to improve the readability of the play-by-play, though it is already quite listenable in this format. |

OK, so now how long until one of the developers incorporates something like this in to their sim?
