As a former Washington native and a Caps fan.... He's pretty much the only player on the team worth a shit.

I know the MVP trophy will be won by Jagr.... but without Ovechkin, we'd probally have like 10 wins this year. I think he gets close to a point on every other goal we score, and thats with every team on the planet sticking 2 guys on him because the caps have no other really dangerous players. Very impressive for a rookie.

If Crosby wins ROY over Ovechkin, there is somehthing seriously wrong with hockey. He's beating Crosby's in just about every statistical category there is. I know Crosby is hockey's new 'Golden Boy', i just hope they give credit where credit is due.

another thing about him is that he will plant you on your ass. Big hitter but doesn't take stupied penalties either. (only 46 pim this year i think)

He's the complete player, thank god we got him.

I had the 17th pick in the 18 player FOFC fantasy league, which also meant I received the 2nd waiver slot. I used that waiver slot to pick up Ovechkin when Yahoo added him and he has been the best player on my 1st place team. It's a shame he's on the Capitals as he'd look good in Ranger blue on the opposite wing as Jagr.

Who's this Radulov guy the Pred's have? He's playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, scored 11 points in a game last week, and has 61 goals and 91 assists so far this year. I'm assuming he's a decent prospect...

well, to be fair, Ovechkin seems to be the clear favorite to win ROY, and has been for most of the season. And he's probably (and deservedly) gathered even more accolades than Crosby has from the various hockey experts, so I don't know if the Golden Boy thing is really valid anymore. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Crosby finished 3rd in the voting.

People knock Crosby, but he's playing for a team that is every bit as bad (worse, really) as the Capitals. Pittsburgh's 2nd leading scorer right now is Ziggy Palffy...who retired 2 months ago. He's 18 years old, he's the most intensely watched rookie since Eric Lindros, and he's still having one of the best rookie seasons of all time.

Ovechkin is easily the best rookie this year, though, and has already become the most exciting player in the NHL to watch.

If it sounded like i was knocking Crosby...... i wasn't. He is freaking awsome to and only 18. I just don't want him to get ROY over Ovechkin is all. They will both be/are amazing players, i think Ovechkin will be the better goal scorer, but Crosby will be the better set-up man.

he's very decent, for lack of a better term. Been a star for the Quebec Remparts all season. At 19, he's really come of age this season.

That game where he had 11 points was won by the Quebec 16-3 btw...

and I just finished watching the video, well done. The kid is amazing, many moves are simply done naturally, just as if he were playing street hockey with his friends, very cool stuff.

Unlike a couple of other sports, an immensely talented hockey player is a thing of beauty. I love seeing a great puck handler and scorer.

Can we please stop using 'dream on' for things like this. It's such a cheesy song now. It meant something when I was listing to it on vinyl with my aunt...when I was 5.

You're a Florida Panthers fan? How'd that happen? Let me get you in touch with my wife's parents and a client of mine in Pompano Beach. I think collectively, you're it.

I'm a Pens fan...and I admit, right now, the Calder is his. Had the 04-05 season not been locked out, Ovy would have won it last year, and Crosby this year. Just so happens, 2 (actually more if you throw in Phaneuf and Lundqvist) of the best rookies in recent memory started out during the same season.

The only thing that bothers me, although I'll admit I haven't seen it here...is that some people believe that to like Ovy is to hate Crosby, and vice versa. Why can't we just enjoy both for what they look like they are going to be--once in a decade or 2 players.

I agree that Ovechkin is the ROY and clearly the better of the two, but I think it should be noted how much he improved his game in the year between when he was 18 and 19. In the WJC he was not the same player he is now, Canada was able to hit him and take him right off his game.

There is a good chance that Crosby will put on some weight over the off-season, get stronger, and make a similar leap next year.

Crosby is good right, has the potential to be awesome. That being said, he needs something more than some weight and strenght in the offseason and that would be to lay off the whining, bitching, crying. Not really a knock on the kid, but he seems very emotional on the ice and he'll need to control some of it to allow him to grow to be an even better player...

That was a great video. I've played hockey for a number of years now. I've played in some low divisions and some higher divisions. Every division you play in there is always a guy who makes everybody look completely silly. You'll hear comments like "Why is he even in that division, he's too good."

That's what watching that video made me think and it's against the greatest players in the world. He makes it look so natural and easy.

My ROY vote.

Ovechkin
Phaneuf
Crosby

Ovy is a fantastic player...Highlight reel goals...hard hitting.....but best of all he LOVES the game.He shows up 6-7 hours before the game to skate on his own and to run the stadium stairs. He lives for this sport and you can see it in the enthusiasm he shows for the game on the ice.

Phanuef is just a freak...to be that young a blueliner....play as tough as a Scott Stevens.....and have the booming shot of an Al Mcinnis...Amazing.He does not make the typical mistakes that a rookie defencman SHOULD be making. He will be a repreated Norris trophy winner for years to come.

Crosby has been a very steady hard working player,he has not much to work with but neither did Lemieux.Difference is Lemieux made players around him better(IE Scott Young) so far in Crosby's young career i don;t see him doing that.Also....it absolutly kills me that he is such a suck.....be fiery....be angry....but don't be a bitcher and moaner.I HATE THAT!

I watched 'em in '96 during their run to the Stanley Cup Finals. They had absolutely no offensive talent, and they kept winning anyway behind Vanbiesbrouck in net.

What sold me, though, was my friend was a huge Flyers fan, and one of the Panthers defenseman laid a nasty lick on Lindros in a scrum for the puck.

It started as a rivalry with my friend, and eventually I just became an outright fan of the team.

True enough, but it's easier to give somebody crap when you're watching it live than to try to drag out the past five years' worth of hockey history that isn't visible.

Plus, you know, the dude who knocked him out was half his size.
