Xbox console.

The series has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, according to the company.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but under the agreement, Lionhead will develop games exclusively for the Xbox 360 console and platforms operating on Microsoft's Windows operating system.

Shane Kim, general manager of Microsoft Game Studios, welcomed the company and its founder, Peter Molyneux, aboard.

"Peter Molyneux is one of the few true visionaries in our industry, and his joining us is incredibly important to the future of both interactive entertainment and MGS," he said in a statement.

Molyneux responded in a statement: "This acquisition gives Lionhead the stability and opportunity to focus on creating world-class next-generation titles."

I thought Bill was smarter than that

I do think that Molyneaux is a wonderful oddball that comes up with good ideas (populous, black and white, etc.) but his game ideas are FAAAR better than the games themselves.

The Movies is a perfect example for me. I was hoping it would be a professionally done version of Hollywood-Mogul and it is nothing of the sort. Like Black and White, you can see huge potential beneath the surface but there is a transparent aluminium shield blocking you from it.

The dungeon keeper series was probably the best but still left me wanting more.
