Masters coverage question
I understand play is set to resume at the masters at 5:15. The CBS Broadcast is scheduled to end at 7. Will it run until dark with the rain delay or will it still end right at 7? Is there any info yet on the extra play that will be required tomorrow? Trying to set up TiVO here...

Lazy Sunday wake up in the late afternoon
Call Parnell just to see how he's doing Hello? What up Parns? Yo Samberg what's cracking? You thinking what I'm thinking? (Narnia!) Then it's happening. But first my hunger pangs are sticking like duct tape. Just hit up Magnolia and mack on some cupcakes. No doubt that bakery's got all the bomb frostings. I love those cupcakes like McAdams loves Gosling. Two, no six, no twelve, baker's dozen! I told you that I'm crazy for these cupcakes cousin. Where's the movie playing? Upper West Side, dude. Well, let's hit up Yahoo! Maps to find the dopest route. I prefer Mapquest. (That's a good one, too.) Google maps is the best. True that. (Double true!) 68th and Broadway (Step on it sucker!) What you what to do Chris? Snack attack motherfucker! The Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. Yes, the Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. We love the Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. Pass that Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. Yo stop at that deli, the theater's overpriced. You got the backpack? (Gonna pack it up nice.) Don't want security to get suspicious. Mr. Pibb and Red Vines equals Crazy Delicious. Yo reach in my pocket, pull out some dough. The girl acted like she'd never seen a ten before. It's all about the Hamiltons baby. Throw the snacks in the bag and I'm Ghost like Swayze. Roll up to the theater. Ticket buying what we're handling. You can call us Aaron Burr from the way we're dropping Hamiltons. Parked in our seats, movie trivia's the illest. What Friends alum starred in films with Bruce Willis? We answered so fast it was scary. Everyone stared in awe when we screamed Matthew Perry. Now quiet in the theater or it's going to get tragic. We're about to get taken to a dream world of magic. The Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. Yes, the Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. We love the Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia. Pass that Chronic (What?) Cles of Narnia.

Wow..I wonder what Tiger is gonna do. If it was just Couples, it might be a different story. But no way he lets Lefty beat him today.

Tiger has that look in his eye. It'll be interesting to see if the field stands up to him.

Just put Tiger's record at Augusta up on the BBC coverage: each of the four times he has won he has been leading after 54 holes. He has never won the Masters when he has not been leading, but has always stayed on to win when leading at the end of round 3. That was a bit rambling, so I'll get to the point - everybody has stood up to him before in the same situation. He has been 5th a couple of times, and 4th once, but never won the tourney.

Tiger has to start making some birdies. Simple as that. I have this weird feeling he's going to come on the back nine and roar out of this thing. Besides, with the way his dad's health is..he really wants to win this one for his dad. He's never had this sort of inspiration in the past when it was close like this.
And it's not as if Lefty or Couples are going to roar out to some huge lead. They're gonna keep this thing close and so, Tiger can still win this thing so long as they're within striking distance.

I am pulling for Rocco Mediate. He grew up 10 mins from where I live, use to play Junior Golf with a good friend, and belongs to the same Country Club as I do.

Well, time to find someone else to root for the rest of the way. 10 for Rocco ends his day and costs him a ton of cash in this tourney.

Tiger's chance has gone with that missed eagle putt. Deserved to get it after the 2nd - what a shot!

Yeah, the putter really let Tiger down today. He had some great approach shots -- two 10-foot putts or short for eagle, and missed them both. He's had at least a half dozen putts he's just missed today. If his putter was on, he could have 8 or 9 under.
When Freddy and Lefty got to 5 under, I figured the first to 7 under would win without a doubt. I didn't Phil would go quite as low as he's gone today. He's got to deal with 17 still, but I just don't see Phil losing this. Quite a performance. That was really too bad about Mediate. I saw the tee shot go in the water, then the ball from the drop zone. They said he found water three times -- did he hit a second ball in the water from the drop zone, or did he hit water coming out of the bunker? |

The front-runner stat suprises no one -- it's legendary how guys explode chasing Tiger. It's just amazing to me that Tiger has never caught anybody from behind to win a major. You could explain it by saying that when Tiger's behind, he presses early to try and catch up and ends up getting himself in trouble. But I'm surprised that when Tiger has gotten to within a couple of shots on Sunday, that the guys in front haven't wilted. That plays against conventional wisdom. |

What a way to finish 18 by Woods and Clark. Woods finishes at 4 under -- If his putter had been more "Tiger-like," he could have reached 10 under.

There are some pretty talented pros on the tour. The fact that some of them can play their own game and not care what Tiger does doesn't surprise me that much. Lefty and Couples don't really seem the type to wilt. |

Great win by Phil today! It was nice to see him able to walk up 18 with the tournament in hand. This is by far my favorite tournament of the year, the beauty of Augusta National is just breathtaking.
I did about an hour of searching but does anyone have the theme music for The Masters? I can't seem to find it anywhere. |

I don't like the changes to the course, at all. The place looks nothing like Augusta has felt to me in past years. That said, I'm sure they're pleased with their changes and won't be content to leave them alone going into next year.

You've probably stumbled on this, but the writer is a Dave Loggins, the one-hit wonder behind "Please Come to Boston" and cousin of Kenny Loggins. Dave Loggins is a tremendous songwriter, and has always been one of my mother's favorite performers. Over the years, I've helped her collect pretty much every recording the man has ever made, and I've never see the Masters Theme released.
The score is aptly enough titled "Augusta." I have never been able to even find an mp3 or even sheet music. As far as I know, Loggins wrote it for CBS and they have never allowed it to be recorded by anyone else or sold commercially. It certainly wouldn't be surprising, given how protective the Masters folks are of everything related to this tournament -- don't want to upset the "patrons." |

Interesting if you look at the stats, Tiger and Lefty were almost identical across the board except in greens hit -- Mickelson was 70 percent, Tiger 65. And even that's not a huge difference. But even the stats don't tell the whole story. The shorter hitters may be able to hang tight with some of the longer hitters in reaching greens, but at August it's all about where you are on the green. If you can drive the fall and even go with a 3-wood off the tee instead of driver, you can position the ball better on the green. I don't think there is any doubt that the changes they made this year made it impossible for anyone to win who can hit the ball and in the fairway and have short irons into the most greens. They went out and Tiger proofed the course, and the only thing that kept Tiger from winning was Tiger missing about six putts from 10 feet or less. |

I think I'm more partial to the U.S. Open. They don't Tiger-proof the course as much as pro-proof the course. Higher scores and better rewards for solid play overall, not just distance off the tee. Plus, the venue changes and it's over Father's Day weekend so you can watch it with Dad.

haha..yeah. Well, ya know. It's funny how Tiger never comes from behind in majors, when Tiger was an amateur, I first learned about him because I'd watch the US Amateur, see that he was down by a ton and then come back home to find out how he won like every hole en route to win 1 up or something. In some ways, with him, I think we sit and we wonder what this guy is gonna do for an encore. I mean, he's done some really crazy stuff over the years and to think that he's 30...I just wonder and today didn't feel right. I never felt like he'd win today. As for Lefty, he just looked like he had it from early in the day. When he's smiling and just looked like he was locked in and having a blast out there, I knew it was his tournament. Hell of a job and he's really changed his fate and you have to appreciate that from a guy whose gone about this whole golf thing his way, in spite of what others think.

Agreed. I enjoy the Open. It's a brutal setup, no doubt, but I also enjoy that the venue changes and you know after that sucker is over that the winner has surely earned his win.

Since Tiger chewed up Pebble Beach, the Open has done a lot more to Tiger-proof the venues, but they've done it the right way by rewarding shorter, accurate shots and punishing longer, more errant shots. You don't hit fairways at The Open, you can't win no longer how hard you hit it. The way August was set up this year, if you couldn't hit the ball far you were in trouble. The rough wasn't penalizing -- there were places where players were probably in better shape in the first cut than they were in the fairway. |

I agree, Couples has struggled with the 'Dennis Wise' putts (nasty little 5 footers ) for a while - just pointing out that if he had made just half of those he missed yesterday, he would have at least tied Mickelson.Woods was a mixture of brilliance and frustration, but was far from the only one playing magnificent iron shots: I thought yesterday was among the highest standard final rounds I have ever seen for a number of players hitting quality shots.

Couples hit 16-18 greens in regulation on Sunday. By far, he hit it better than Lefty. He would have won with decent putting from 5 feet in. Quite a shame, but it really is all about putting at Augusta.

From an article last week, Woods is understandably too distraught over his dad's illness to concentrate on golf until the The Open but not to do stunts like these.

Not sure I see the problem. He's skipping some tournaments -- most of which he wasn't planning to play anyway -- to spend time with his dad, but he did go ahead and go to New Zealand like he had committed to in order to serve as best man at his friend's wedding and take part in a charity fundraiser. While there, his friend also got him to go bungee jumping to take his mind off things.
The only things I'm confused about is why this is news and why anybody cares. |
