Computer weirdness: disappearing software

Okay, I know this is probably going to sound like a case of operator error, but if it was, I'd love to figure out how I did it.

I needed to splice a couple of :30 commercials together today, to turn them into a :60 spot. No biggie, just open up the .mp3's in Adobe Audition, append, and voila ... new commercial.

Only one problem: Adobe Audition had vanished without a trace.
Bought it 2 1/2 years ago, installed on the old comp, lost it when that one crashed, re-installed with no problem on the current comp, have used it plenty of times since reinstalling last year.

But it was suddenly gone from my harddrive.

Happily, Adobe couldn't have been nicer (having the sales receipt on file and in my old email certainly helped), and I was up & running again in less than 15 minutes after calling customer support. But I'm still baffled (as were they) about what the heck happened.

All I can offer is my word that I absolutely, positively, without a single doubt in my mind is that I did NOT do anything stupid like uninstall. You'll just have to trust me, that's not something I did, not even unintentionally (I can't even remember the last time I used Add/Remove Programs before today. Months at least). And if I had accidentally deleted the folder, some traces of the install should have remained (which Adobe confirmed for me, even helped me search for files like the installer which should have remained even if I goofed up).
And there's no record at Abode of any viruses or anything like that which are attacking specific Adobe programs. There's also nothing like any sort of timer or limitations or anything, this was bought & paid for nearly three years ago like I said.

So ... how the heck did this entire program just vanish?
Ideas?

Did you maybe accidentally drag the folder with the Adobe program in it into another folder by mistake? I've lost things that way before.

Butter -- Nope, I wondered about that but a full search failed to turn up the executable anywhere.

GDawg -- I've done restores, but not in ages, and I'm almost certain not on this computer since I installed Audition.

But now you've got something poking at me in the very back of my mind. There's a tiny little half-memory nudging at me faintly but I can't recall off-hand what the heck it would be that caused a restore (that's generally traumatic enough for me that I tend to recall the scenarios pretty easily).

Hmm ... maybe that is how it happened & I'm just so brainfried at this point that I don't remember doing it.
