V for Vendetta (hijacked version now about searching before starting threads)

may already be a thread but whatever...

Wow, they may as well have said that this is the Anti-Bush movie but for a lefty it was excellent. I wonder if a righty would think it bad due to the obvious similarities they are trying to draw.

EDIT: Edited the title for clarity sake but left the main portion the same so you guys can continue your fun with tars and feathers.

bah you can't win for losing on this. you post something and everyone jumps on you for posting something already posted. someone else posts something else you already posted and everyone jumps on you for being a dick about it. at least thats what i get.

FOFC fun...its like a quiz game some play on here.

Someone posts something that has been posted in the past but isnt on the front page and the person who can post a link to the old thread wins. Silly to me, shallow to me, and avoids talking about the topic, but I will remain unchanged....just like I dont call anyone out on their excitement to say something, I find it shameful that others do. Whatever, eventually if that were the way it is, this would only be a current events and drag race forum, to see who gets their thread up first....like they earn a stripe or something.

right, starting a thread on a movie and that I liked it is somehow self serving. Asshat!

god forbid, someone have messages on a god damn message board...Ill have to start doing a search everytime and hope, hope, that someone actually titled their corresponding thread appropriately, and filter out the stupid copycat thread titles....

ridiculous...

Well fuck this thread, god forbif people talk about V for Vendetta again as Im sure the 40 some odd posts in the other thread exhausted the topic like seeing a topic rehashed must certainly exhaust you.

How hard is it to hit "search" type "Vendetta" then click on the one super-obvious hit for that search?

It's especially ridiculous considering you basically admit you know there is another thread already.

i think it's kinda obvious which topics likely already have a thread on them already. V has been out for like 2 weeks now, right?, so you don't think that in the last 2-3 weeks *no one* would have started a thread on that movie? for obscure indie movies, yeah, you probably don't have to err on the side of caution, but for major releases that have Natalie Portman in them? might have to take a bet and assume someone's already been there, done that.

that having been said i don't think this movie was quite the lightening rod for discussion and controversy people thought it'd be. i didn't see it, and won't see it until it's on HBO or some other movie channel. i refuse to give the Wachowski Brothers anymore of my money after the 2 Matrix sequels. the 1st Matrix is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time and they ruined it's legacy with the 2 sequels. they ruined the entire franchise for me to the point where i don't even like to discuss the Matrix anymore. i remember when the 2 sequels came out and i was left scratching my head with my "was that all there was??" face i scoured the internet looking for answers or ideas on the movies, looking to see perhaps if someone figured it all out. alas, it wasn't meant to be.

I only saw the movie tonight and dont memorize threads, so to me it was appropriate...although in hindsight I wish I hadnt of since NOT ONE has talked about the movie so its all a waste and just served to allow a few to take pot shots, be dickheads, or win the race to point out an old thread...so we have a shot taken, a dick head, and a winner. Close the thread and wait for the next one so that one can fall victim to the buzzards too. Makes for fun on FOFC, I tell ya.

so we go circular. youre saying you should do a search before you start any thread and I disagree vehemently for the reasons already stated, so go back to your high horse, please.

im over it....you must enjoy this much more than I do.

Actually, I haven't heard you really give a reason for not searching besides that you're too cool for it.

I wish we wouldve talked about the movie, coolness when I visit a text sim msg board everyday is not something I claimed to be, but believe what you want...I wont search, and dont think anyone (so everyone is too cool?) should have to, before starting threads or else this will become a current events board and nothing started before will be able to be talked about. That is stupid, lest there be only one thread allowed about tatoos, cuz I count a bunch in existence.

Bolded for emphasis..

If people do not search for obvious things, like you haven't here, this board will become a board of repeat topics where discussions are disjointed because they're in 3 or 4 threads.

ok, so there is a median, I certainly dont think that a topic that was off the front of the page and not talked in for over 2 weeks is off the charts. sorry, I see your point but killing this thread was an over-reaction and I DEFINITELY think it fell into the "Race to point out repeat threads" game.

I think sometimes you have a point (there are some subjects that need fresh threads after a while), but not on this one. I know when I've seen a discussion like this on a movie or a book, it is hard to follow if you have two threads. You end up stunting the conversation instead of continuing it.

Oh, and thanks for the title change, because I would have never looked in this thread without it.

..in hinsight I wish I wouldve found the old thread because this certainly wasnt my intent, but I guess my variance or accepted distance between old and new is less than 2 weeks, especially considering that it hasnt been seen in over 2 weeks, hence the "May be" of it being out there. again, I wish I wouldve now, but 2 weeks is not over tolerance IMO.

As for the movie, I really think the political aspects of it are overblown. Sure, you can draw comparisons to today, I guess, but you could try to do that with every movie.

Actually the only thing about the movie I felt was in relation to us was when V said fear made them trade way their freedoms. This is happening in our country with the Patriot Act. The government is using terror to make Joe and Jane American be afraid and not say a word to their phones being tapped or their emails being read. Funny thing is our news media is basically the governments mouth piece. Oh well...

For future reference, does not appear that Gallagher or Kajagoogoo have their own threads. Captain Kangaroo, Carrot Top and Howie Mandel do though.

I loved the movie. It was more anti-GMA(the Philippine President)... heh. "People should not be afraid of their government, the government should be afraid of their people."

Here's an idea. With all of the duplicate threads cluttering up the board, how about one of the 57 million new mods around here get the job of merging the duplicates?

Andin regards to Joe's question, I personally am more in favor of locking dupe threads than merging them. But that's just me.

And this thread is too much fun now to lock.

what does a merged thread end up looking like? do these posts end up in the middle, at the end?

Back to the original topic, I kind of noticed somewhat in reference to Bush, but scary movie and American Dreamz seems to be more related to Bush then V for Vendetta was relate to the "right"

thats pretty funny however the best distinction or discussion is Grantdawg's...what is the time allowed to wherein a new thread is ok to start on an old topic? 2 weeks off the front page? a month? what do you think?

If I know something has already been posted then almost always just bump the thread. And I usually run a simple search if I'm not sure if it's been posted but there's a good chance that it has (like for a movie that's been out for a month)...

I would say more than a month. Honestly, if there is a thread on the exact same subject that is not in the archive, then just bump it.

yes, that's why we have an archive

More importantly, when somebody points out that there is already a thread on the topic, say "thanks!" and go post in that thread. Otherwise you're just being an oversensitive drama queen.

i dont think it was a simple, "theres already a thread on that" so someone else's panties were twisted to start this...perhaps if it was as if you said then this wouldve been a lot shorter and perhaps this wouldnt have been an argument...HOWEVER I do think that there should a be a general limit on what is considered current, maybe not 2 weeks, or as some have suggested a month, but NO ONE should have to go get stuff out of archive to talk about it.:

Would this really have required THAT much effort?

You're right, those definitely require that your hackles be raised.
