Coke Blak
Saw this at the Kroger tonight and had to pick it up. For those of you who forgot it is Coca-Cola mixed with coffee (or at least coffee flavoring).
I drank my first one tonight and I must say it was pretty good. It tasted like Coca-Cola with a hint of coffee (instead of the coffee taste overpowering the Coke). Basically made for a very nice aftertaste of coffee & Coke. Another winner by Coke (now for a Coca-Cola Zero Blak ).Imran (aka, me) approves!

Eh... isn't that stuff like eight bucks a bottle?
I think I'll brew some coffee, and just fill the water reservoir with coke zero. The ultimate low-calorie, high-caffiene drink. |

I didn't think it was good, nor could I imagine paying $2 a bottle for it.

Well it was more like $1.25 per bottle (on sale) at the local Kroger.

Tried some the other day. So disgusting. Who thought that would be a good idea?
Oh, and I saw it for $2 at Walgreen's and $1.20 at the drug store across the street from it. $2 for an 8 oz. bottle is highway robbery.

Had another bottle this morning (I still approve), and I've super wide awake... I wonder what the caffeine content is?

If I'm investing in those expensive coffee drinks, I'll just stick with the French Vanilla Frappacino(sp?). That thing has always been good enough for me.

Yeah, same here. Nice to try... and if it comes down in price I'll get more of it, but at current prices, spending that kind of money once is enough for me.

They need to Coke Zero every flavor they have. There is a Diet Coke with Lime? They need a Coke Zero with Lime. There is a Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke? They need a Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero.

not about coke blak but there's an italian drink called 'bibicaffe' that is evrything blak should be. It has a hint of vanilla (or something) that seems to make a world of difference. It's marketed as an espresso drink and it is very tasty. The only place that I know that has it is Cafe Baci in the Chicago area...

I love Coke Zero, I'm drinking one right now. I'm the only one I know who likes it though and I don't see it around too much in stores, so I was hoping there were more of you out there that like it so it doesn't get discontinued.

Around me, they always stock the Coke Zero, and people seemingly are buying it in decent numbers. I know I always stock up on a 12 pack every week. As do a few of my friends.

I've begun seeing Zero in two-liter form over the last few weeks up here, so I don't think it's going away for a while yet if ever.

I've definitely come around to Coke Zero.
As far as Coke Blak goes, has anyone seen any in convenience stores? I'd like to pop in a pick one up on the way home, but am doubting they are anywhere other than Targets or Walmarts.

I just read that Zero is at 0.8% market share. That sounds low, but that's the exact market share as Cherry Coke, which isn't going away anytime soon.

Coke Zero is easy to find in 2 liter bottles up here... I usually get it when they're out of Diet Rite.

Coke Zero is the "diet" version of Coke Classic. It's sweetened with Ace-K and aspartame. It tastes very similar to regular coke, and does not have a nasty diet aftertaste.
Diet Coke was sweetened with sugar at some point and "New Coke" was created. Last edited by stevew : 04-24-2006 at 04:30 PM. |

Actually according to Wikipedia, Coke Light is DIET Coke (since they have Coke Light Lemon and such, that tends to make sense): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coke_Light Quote:

Save your $1.25/bottle unless you like sickly-sweet drinks. As I said in another thread, to me it tastes like a super-sweet caramel creme type drink. I took one or two sips and was done. /tk

I had a sniff of it the other night (didn't take a sip since I can't have soda for another five moths or so thanks to FOFC) and it smelled interesting. I think it's something that I might actually like...

I've had Coke Light in Istanbul. Is isn't the same as Coke Zero, sorry. It actually tasted like a more refreshing version of Diet Coke.

So it's probably slightly different in each country. The basic formula of Light is the same as Zero though. |

How exactly can the 'basic formula' be the same when it is reformulated for each country based on 'consumer preference'?! I'd imagine the sweetener blend is integral to a 'formula'. Therefore, if Coke Zero's sweetener blend is different from any other country, it ain't the same formula as Coke Light.

See, I don't see how you can seperate the sweetener balance from the 'basic formula'. As pointed out in the article on wikipedia, the difference between Diet Coke and Coke Light is simply the sweetener mix. Diet Coke has aspartame while Coke Light is sweetened with a blend of cyclamide, aspertame, and Ace K (cyclamide is banned in the US, making Zero different from Light already). Also Diet Coke came out in 1982 (about 3 years before New Coke). Coke Light came out around a similar time, and aside from the different sweetener mix, I don't see Coke changing the highly successful Diet Coke (in the US) too much for foriegn consumption. And yes, in fountains, Diet Coke is sweetened with saccarin, which is why it tastes different from what you drink in cans. In addition Coke Light does have some calories (0.3 per 100 ml, ie, 1 calorie per can), while Coke Zero has 0 calories.

Here, a link from people who know this stuff better than us (yes, there is actually IS a beverage forum):
http://www.bevnet.com/bevboard/cgi-b...c;f=1;t=003750 See SamC's post, especially. And a detailed listing of Coke brands (on a personal site it seems), asserting Coke Light is simply Diet Coke with variations: http://leslie.harpold.com/presents/0...iet_cokes.html

My only point is that Diet Coke is based off of the New Coke formula, Coke Light in Europe and Coke Zero are based off of Coke Classic, with only the relative sweetners being different based on local regulations, relative local costs of materials, and local tastes. |

You have it backwards. New Coke was BASED off Diet Coke (it's Diet Coke, but with sugar or HFCS). And from my taste, Coke Light did not seem to be based off Coca Classic (yes, I tried a Coke Classic in Istanbul, and recognized it as a Coke product, even if it tasted a slight bit different; not so for Coke Light). And apparently from what is said from many others, Coke Light was Diet Coke... with different sweeteners (such as those banned in the US), one of which Ace K was recently legalized for use by the FDA.
