Changes for next season

It's that time of year again - time for a couple of changes to Hattrick. Read on for a detailed description.

The multi-season league reform project is at its peak as you read this. A significant number of changes to one of Hattrick's basic elements have been made, and it has been a major undertaking. Hopefully the confusion and uncertainty about the league system is gone now. Hattrick has gained a new foundation that will prepare us for further growth, while also making the league system more interesting and challenging for users in lower divisions.

Next season, all transferred players will be paid salary from the first day in their new club. The salary will be added to the club's temporary expenses for that week. This change will take place from 2006-04-24 20:00:00 (HT-time).

The unnecessarily complex bankruptcy system will be reformed - you will have two weeks in which to regain sound economical status, with no login limits. The five-login limit is scrapped.

A minor change regarding players' *-rating: a forward towards wing will receive a lower rating compared to today. This means that you cannot compare a rating received in the upcoming season with a rating earned in earlier seasons.

In one area, the match engine has been sorely lacking in intelligence; when determining the scorer of a goal it has neither taken into consideration repositioned players nor players' scoring ability. Now scoring, position, form, health and experience will influence who becomes a
great goal scorer, adding more realism to the match engine.

To make match reports more interesting and varied, your LAs have worked very hard on expanding the reports. We think you'll like them.

We are also introducing a new Flash-based match orders form that gives you direct access to the skills of each player, and the possibility to sort players according to skills. The new orders form supports drag-and-drop, and will give you a more accurate view of the current
formation. All valid setups and some special ones are supported; however, for very special formations you will need to use the old form which will still be available. You can select your default orders form in the Preferences section (My Hattrick -> Preferences -> Other settings).

All in all, these changes represent a mixture of rule changes and new features. During this season we have worked very hard on the league reform and improving Hattrick's stability and we are very pleased to be able to present these other changes and improvements as well.

Some interesting additions, although I can't check the flash match order thingie. I like the bankruptcy rules that I think we should call "The FC Barentin rule" That way now, if you go over the limit on a weekly update but know you'll be okay by Sunday afternoon, you can breathe a little better...

I also like the new way they will determine who will score. Simply makes sense...

Actually, there seem to be two rules inspired by last seasons Masters. First the bankruptcy is definitely inspired by Barentin, but also the having to pay wages from the first day of the transfer is also because of the Masters. I really approve of that rule, no longer will a team be able to cheesily build a team of divines for that week without having to pay their wages the way that team in Romania did, or many other teams who have done the same thing for various reasons.

oh, you are right, since it never applied to me and I paid little attention to the Masters, I didn't realize this is something that could be easily done. Good call by the HT-men (or women or aliens )

at first i HATED the idea of paying the first week salary up front, until Tell pointed out the reason why. now i think its great!

also, the idea of better intelligence on scorers is awesome

I really like the first two changes. I thought the Masters idea was a good one last year, but it was quickly ruined by the divine trick, so maybe now it will be a bit more legit.

And as much as I benefited from the Forward Towards Wing last year, it did seem a bit out of whack.

The interesting thing about that wage thing is that a player could potentially get paid twice in a week, unless there is some check in the system to see if he's already been paid by the former team. Say...buy a player, pay his wages from day 1, list him again and the buyer pays the wages again in that week, then again at the weekly update?

Or, now that I think about it, will we double pay for every player we buy? There has to be some check in the system to prevent that, otherwise I can see a LOT of people up in arms over that as soon as it happens.

I think I've just confused myself, need more caffeine or something this morning. I'm not sure if what I posted is even a legit concern now, though I do think if you bought and sold a player in the same week he'd get paid twice, which seems somewhat odd.

I think it will work like this. You buy a player and his salary goes into your temp cost for the week. You are paying for his services for that current week. At the update you are paying for his services for the upcoming week. So technically you are not paying him twice, however, for that week you will be. The same way if you were paying rent of car insurance pro rated upfront.

That makes sense, but I do wonder if the wage will really be prorated. :P Somehow I doubt it, but only time will tell.

yeah, if it's not prorated, it will only mean less money for the buyers and more for the player, as he would get paid twice by two different teams...

for instance, on pentalty takers you can just sort the players on the right by set pieces and drag them over in that order.

Sadly enough, this is not something I'm capable of using. Mostly because I can't see the text on the white sidebar. I may play with it some more to see if I can manage it, but at this point I'm not thinking it'll be very useful to me as a person with poor eyesight.

Unless they gave the selling team those wages back upon the sale. They've never done that before, so I certainly don't see them doing it now, but that would be the fair thing. If we're now responsible for wages on a daily instead of a weekly basis, it'd be nice to recieve that money back, or change the way wages are paid to be for the past week instead of the coming week. Won't happen, I'm sure, but it'd be nice.

yeah, thought about that, but then it would sorta defeat the purpose of "punishing" the buyers of temp players, à la Barentin et al...

Because of that, and what I feel is the spirit of the rule, I think the wages won't even be prorated. Just a feeling...

Eh, they're just dropping the star rating on them. Which means my outstanding winger/formidable +3 scoring fellow won't be breaking 7 stars in the next week or two after all. I'll still have a positively brutal wing attack to bludgeon people with, though.

I agree that this is one of the best upgrades HT's done. True, it is not that difficult to switch back and forth on with the player page or use Hattrick Coach/Organizer, etc., but this is nice.

Since I don't think anyone's discussed the other 3 minor changes, here goes:

1) I really like them changing the antiquated bankruptcy stuff. No more trying to figure out if it's this week or next week or how many logins or what counts as a login or anything. If there's a way to cheat around bankruptcy with this, it becomes a problem but I guess we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

2) "More interesting and varied match reports"- well, they've claimed this in the past and not much has come of it. Let's see if this time is any different. It's going to make some tools for tracking types of scoring chances a little flawed for the first half of next season. If it's changed and updated and made better, this is a fluff thing that, while still a fluff thing, will make watching matches more fun.

3) Scoring no longer randomly determined. Finally! Because, really, it made sense that your outstanding scorer who happened to get lucky had 15 goals while the supernatural who did all the heavy lifting got 5 because he was unlucky when it came time to say who scored. This is an excellent change. Finally, the leading scorer in a series will likely be one of the best scorers in said series.
