What is the thing you hate most about your job?

I was thinking about that and came to the conclusion that I hate the fact that when the shit hits the fan it is usually the day of closing and sometimes a person cannot move into their home that they thought they were going to. I hate that they call me and ask me what they should do and I dont know what to tell them. That I think is the worst part, that its supposed to be the best day for them and sometimes, rarely I should say, they lose out entirely.

What is yours?

Tedium. I'm an analyst, so I spend most of my week updating forecasts on the same 20-25 spreadsheets with intermittent projects. Pays pretty well though. And four weeks vacation is nice.

Customers who think they know how to do your job better than you do when they don't (heck, if they do, I'll gladly take advice- it's the ones who think they know stuff when they don't that are the problem).

It's not so much that I don't know what it means but that it would take me too much time in solving it. I almost had one of those today when I got an ORA-09048 error on a failed trigger in the table. Luckily I work with the schema dba and found it had a typo in the trigger function.

Dealing with people everyday who claim that they want a job, but in reality all they want is a handout.

The idiots:

My idiotic co-workers who do nothing but play on the internet and fuck things up all day long then ask for help on how to fix it, then get praise from everyone else for "working so hard" when all they're doing is working in circles. If I don't help them the problem just festers until I'm made to fix it, which takes 10 times longer than just fixing it right away. And the ones who can't tell a computer mouse from an indoor fern ... ugh.

My idiotic boss who can do no wrong, yet constantly fucks up and talks his way out of jams, and somehow has managed to portray himself as the second coming of Jesus to his bosses. Despite letting huge problems slip through the ... gaping holes he's created ... his bosses are convinced he is perfect, and are more than happy to provide him with all the tools he needs to keep diging himself in deeper.

Equipment. Something breaks down every day. Every day. And I have to fix it.

Not meaning to be cocky - but there isn't really anything I 'hate' about my job - there are parts which I'd prefer not to happen (mainly longer hours around releases, but this is something we've been improving upon year in year out and hopefully it won't be for more than a few days this year) but by and by I love my job ...

That every time that a server fails putting all my websites offline is at night when i'm sleeping or just when i'm away on holidays without internet access. It has made me really paranoid, the first thing i do when i wake up, even before dressing or cleaning my face is to check the servers while my wife waits impatiently with the breakfast getting cold over the table.

I hate also the time differences as i work mainly with USA guys and they are sleeping when i wake up and they love to talk business when it's my time to go to to bed, forcing me to go to bed really late. That is probably what my wife hates the most about my job too.

I've noticed this is amazingly common with practically every area of IT - we've an IT chap at SI who looks after our internal infrastructure, its always 100% smooth with no problems at all until he takes a day off when it always seems that all heck breaks loose ...

People around me trying to make every issue a IT vrs Developer, who's fault is it. Rather than just helping out and getting the problem fixed.

Course this is just currently what I hate most. I'm going to wring some necks today.

The hours. I leave the house at 7:30AM and get home about Midnight every day. Eventually it is supposed to cut back to 12-13 hour days, but I have yet to see any evidence of that. At least I get weekends (except this one).

Being primary on-call 24/7 for a week. This happens once a month and usually means zero sleep during that time.
