Top 5 sports teams you root for to lose...

It seems that it is easier to root for a team to lose (since there will be more of them) than it is to root for a team to win, esp. if one got animosities or hatred towards a particular team or rival. This becomes more pronounced during post-season play, I think, because of the energy it takes to get there and the (usually) high expectation...and to see the team lose becomes sweet justice.

Anyway, what is your list of top 5 teams you root for to lose?

Here's mine:

College basketball: Kentucky
Baseball: Yankees
Pro football: Falcons and Raiders
Hockey: Red Wings

The degree of 'hatred' seems to vary season to season but for 20 years, UK has been the constant with the Raiders becoming even more hated, if that's possible.

UGA (any sport), Hendrick Motorsports, SF Giants, UConn (women's hoops), and LSU (women's hoops & football)

And, since you mentioned the change over time, that's my current list.
If you had asked me 20 years ago, it would have probably been something like:
UGA (anything), Pirates (Bonds era), Yankees, 49ers, and the Celtics.

The Bucs move from the NFC Central to the NFC South rendered most of my hatred for teams obsolete. I have to consciously remind myself to root against the Falcons, Saints, and Panthers. (Hell, I wear a New Orleans Saints shirt while doing yard work...I would never, ever, ever, ever have owned a Packers, Lions, Bears, or Vikings shirt. Ever.

Yeah, 30 years ago when I was a sports fanatic, my list would have been: Cowboys, Dodgers, Cowboys, Notre Dame and did I mention the Cowboys?

I really don't need 5 teams. These 2 are enough.

Ooh, forgot about Nebraska. That's a good one. I'd put them in there with the Cowboys and Notre Dame.

Overall, I think I've mellowed. In the past, I might have listed teams like the Dodgers (just didn't like them for whatever reason), NY Rangers, Edmonton Oilers (though that's really more 20 years ago). Maybe even the Braves, though with them I respect the organization and actually like the TBS tv crew. Oh, and the Celtics. But like I said, I've softened.

That's fairly accurate. I'd run through Boston in a Yankees jersey rather than root for the Dodgers.

Actually, I'd add the Cowboys and Patriots to that list - too much of Boston on the latter.

Tried to diversify the list a bit... although, to be honest, the only team I'm fanatical about is the Redskins, so I probably should have made my list look like this:

1. Dallas Cowboys
2. New York Giants
3. Philadelphia Eagles
4. Oakland Raiders (yes, I will forever be bitter about Super Bowl XVIII)
5. Dallas Cowboys

I don't think I can put mine in any particular order, but my top 5 are like this:

Chicago Cubs
Kansas City Chiefs
Oakland Raiders
New York Rangers
Philadelphia Flyers

The only other team that comes close is the Red Wings, but since they don't play my Devils very often, I put the divisional rivals on the list instead. There are a couple of other NHL Western Conference teams that I really don't like, but they don't quite compare to the teams I mentioned.

Honestly, so long as the Devils or the Blue Jays can win, I'm not sure I care. But since the latter haven't been good in a while, I tend to just root for whoever around playoff time.

And I root against whoever is standing in my team's way...

i have a recurring dream where the plane carrying the yankees crashes into giants stadium while the cowboys and giants are playing a game (with no fans in attendance) and the devils are practising at continental airlines arena and every player on all 4 teams is killed.

Hmm, looking over these there are a few more teams I never really rooted for and many that I just plain didn't like: Georgetown, UNC, USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan, Kansas, Tark's UNLV teams, the Knicks. Formerly U. Miami too, though I've softened there. Still don't like the Gators or the Seminoles much though.

I'll be happy when the Patriots suck again too.
