Players Everyone Hates, That You Like
For some reason I've found myself lately becoming fans of the players everyone else seems to hate. Kobe Bryant has become one of my favorite players in the NBA, despite the fact that more and more people seem to hate him everyday. The same thing with Barry Bonds. I'm actually cheering for Bonds to hit more home runs. I was just wondering if there's actually anyone else out there that's like me in this situation, cause I haven't really found too many people on my side of the issue.

Seems like a lot of hate for Favre going around, atleast on the radio. Those people can bite me.
![]() Also, most Packer fans probably don't like Walker much right now since he forced his way out of Green Bay, but for some reason this time (unlike McKenzie) in which I don't mind and kind of see the players side of it. I am fine with the guy right now and wish him luck on a title run with Denver.

I meet tons of people who hate the guys. A lot of former Jet fans hate him for leaving and then coming back to coaching. I'm just appreciative of the fact that he took us from Arizona Cardinal quality to perenneial playoff contender. |

I know lots of Jets fan hate him. I'm sure some Patriots fans are unhappy that he left them. I just didn't think there were many others that hate or even dislike him. I've been trying to think of guys/coaches that I like who are widely disliked, and I can't really think of any. I think Kobe, Barry, and guys like that qualify for the widely disliked/hated. |

To get back to the original poster's examples, I dislike both Barry and Kobe.

He was calling the Jets about a coaching position the week before the super bowl and leaking it to the press.
That's why he's an ass and Pats fans hate him. |

Yes, he's overpaid, but since when did he become the anti-Christ? He's one of the best players of all time, but apparently we have to hate him because he hasn't mastered the Derek Jeter "look how hard I'm trying in this big game" face.

I like Barry Bonds. I wish that he'd stop with this denial of taking steroids though, and come out a la Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men. "Much as you may hate me and think I'm a monster, the truth is you all were begging me to do it. Everyone was looking at the McGwire's and Sosa's like they were the best players in the game, and no one was questioning them. You wanted me to take steroids, dammit, my team needed me to take steroids, and I did it. But don't you judge me when almost every other star was doing it." Would certainly makes Bonds on Bonds worth watching.
I also don't have any problem with players celebrating after plays, as long as it doesn't delay the game or hurt their team, and I love it when players talk trash, adds some flavor. |

There's a few players that I'm a fan of that most others seem to hate:
Jay Fiedler Brad Johnson (had him on my fantasy team for a couple of years - he did OK! the afore-mentioned Chad Johnson - he obviously has fun: I don't think he does things to be a jerk, just to have a laugh Robbie Savage - ex-Leicester hero: gives his heart and soul for his team Rodney Harrison - fantasy football again (and he's a Pat, which makes him an even more strange choice for a Dolphin's fan) David Carr - think he looks a good QB when he doesn't have all of the opposition's d-line in his face a millisecond after the snap They're the ones that spring to mind

Agreed 100% on this one. Also, I think there needs to be a rule in this thread that you can't pick a hometown player. For instance, if you're a Laker fan, you can't pick Kobe- that kind of thing ![]() SI

I can only say I agree with the Keyshawn Johnson and Jay Fiedler selections. Johnson's #19 desire and Fiedler's Amsterdam history are only part of it, the other half is that I won a fantasy football league with them.

1. Barry Bonds - I seem to be defending him more and more each time I have a talk with my friends.
2. Antoine Walker - Employee #8 has just been a favorite of mine since he was drafted by the C's. He plays with more heart (NBA standards) than 15x of the rest of the NBA. I agree he should stick to the inside (where he has some amazing moves) than the 3-point land. I think Jim O'Brien really screwed the C's and #8 over in that regard IMHO. In the New England region though, especially with a few of my friends, he is HATED...I just don't get it, he gave it all for Boston. Last edited by Sublime 2 : 05-07-2006 at 07:02 PM. |

Curtis Joseph. For some reason, many (most?) Leaf fans hate the guy. I never understood why. He was fantastic when he was in Toronto. Yes, he left for more money. So what? Much like Johnny Damon, if you're a big market and you steal a star player away from a small market for big money, don't act offended when the player takes even bigger money to go somewhere else.

don't get me started. I think Cujo is one of the most severely underapreciated hockey players of recent memory. If I remember right, his last year in Toronto he pretty much carried the Leafs through the playoffs, and got unfairly saddled with the blame when they got knocked out, even though he stood on his head for most of it. I don't think they even wanted him back, which is ridiculous. others in the thread? Keyshawn is ok. don't like Parcells though.

I am another that likes, and actually roots for, Barry Bonds.
Hines Ward is probably my favorite NFL player. I'm not sure, but it seems like a lot of opponents do not like him b/c he is always smiling. But, I get the feeling that most of them would take him on their team if he was available. |
