Anyone subscribe to MLB.tv? I have a favor to ask...

I've been signed up for a few years so I can watch my beloved Cubbies from Northern Virginia when time allows. Now that we have a team in Washington, I would also like to watch the Nats games. However, based upon MLB blackout rules and the zip code on my crdit card billing address, all Nats games are blacked out.

What I would like to do is essentially "trade logins" with someone from another part of the country who has an account and doesn't mind not seeing the Nationals and/or doesn't watch them much, so I could circumvent this archaic by-product of the anti-trust exemption. If the Nats were actually televised in DC, the blackout would make sense. Alas, 95% of the DC fanbase cannot watch their team on TV.

Don't they still black the games out in DC and Virginia? I know they do on Dish Network.

I'm thinking you are right Toddzilla, unless Lord Scarlet knows otherwise. I know that all the Twins games on my cable package are blacked out here(I get the package for the Cardinal games).

Yessirree - My dad lives in NC and is a Cubs fan, too, so we're going to pay for each other's subscription next year so I can skirt the blackout.

Does anyone out there want to help a brother out?

Have you looked into getting an IP mask? From what I've read it's not terribly hard to implement and would accomplish the same thing. I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me can elaborate.

Wouldn't work unfortunately - MLB.com uses the zip code on your account to determine who gets blacked-out. I couldn't watch the Nats if I was on vacation in Hawaii - not that I'd want to...

Would they be able to detect you logging in with another subscribers log in information with your own IP address and vice versa? You'd figure MLB.com/tv would have some system set up to prevent this kind of thing.

The DirecTV bases loaded thing or whatever the hell they call it is probably blacked out, but DirecTV gets MASN for free which is Angelos's network that Comcast refuses to carry.

I log in from home, from work, and occasionalyl from my parent's house. Since I use DSL and don't have a static IP address, and my company probably presents a single IP for outbound traffic, tracking IP addresses by user is worthless.

Cox Cable is the absolute worst IMO. Their lines in this part of Burke - Wilmingon Drive - are in awful shape. They won't fix them or upgrade them, so for the miserable year I had their awful service, it was out on average of 2 days a week.

DirecTV has MASN, which has all the Nats games. You don't need Extra Innings to watch the Nats with Direct.

Can you get FIOS and FIOS TV? They also have MASN, the best HD service available, and blazingly fast internet. Its a no brainer.

Sorry, the gist of thei thread wasn't that I was going to switch cable/satellite providers just to watch the Nats. I have DishNetwork HDTV and am very happy with it.

I'm just looking for someone else who has subscribed to MLB.tv that is willing to exchange logins once in a while so I can watch the Nats on my computer, since I am blacked out from doing so.

Dish, like Direct, compresses the shit out of their signal. According to all reports, FIOS compresses far less if at all - it is a far superior picture, especially for HD.

We were just trying to give you legal options to watch the Nats games .
