Madden - GM Mode

I created 32 fictional teams in Madden 2006, found myself some decent slider settings, and started a career where I act as the GM and just watch all my games. I gotta say, I'm having a blast. Madden seems to get spat on a lot 'round these parts and I can certainly understand the reasons why, but this is really a lot of fun.

I'm in my 3rd season now with my Memphis team, who were generated as a Strong D roster. We won 6 games in our first year, then I spent every pick in the next draft on our offense and picked up a steal of a QB in the early 2nd round. We just missed out on the playoffs last season with a 10 win season (we play in a REAL strong conference), and are 3-0 so far this year, thanks largely to the stellar play of our D and our improving, young receivers.

So why didn't anyone tell me Madden could be this fun?

Madden makes a lot of things not a pain in the ass. For instance, contract negotiation. Just adjust the salary slider until things are optimal, and BAM. No need to individually manage each year of the contract and any of that. Also, it stops you from backloading contracts and essentially cheating.

The UI is also pretty, although far from being as good as it could be.

I definately feel that it has it's issues. As a house rule I don't allow contract negotiations at all, unless I don't have enough players on my roster to start the season, in which case I limit myself to backups around the 50 overall rating.

Perhaps the most glaring issue I noticed, gameplay wise, is the amount of times a QB throws the ball right to a defender. The INT slider has been turned waaaaaaaaaay down, and this is the only thing stopping the computer from picking up about 10 picks a game.

Madden is pretty fun. I enjoy it for a few months after it comes out. I enjoy NCAA football even more. There are some flaws in both, but...I can handle them.

It kills me that NCAA is not on PC, it really does. I've NEVER had the opportunity to play it, and I know it would take over my life if I could.

what option did you use to create an entire league? Or did you jusy choose franchise?

I agree about NCAA, I would kill to have that on pc

Apparently, they're putting NCAA07 out for PSP this coming year. That's sooo exciting. But agreed, the fact that it's not a PC game is very sad.

I used Franchise mode, but to use all user-created teams I had to start the Franchise, then save during training camp, quit out, and use an external application to replace all the NFL teams with the ones I'd created. Works a treat, but I have no idea why you can't do this in game.
