Law and Order: Dennis Farina quits.

I read this in today's McPaper. That stinks - He was real good in that role. Tough filling the shoes of Jerry Orbach, but he did a fantastic job.

So this begs the question, who would be a great detective on L&O?

My choices:

David Duchovny
Ed O'Neill
The guy who played Aaron Pierce on 24

Would it be weird to see Dennis Franz as someone other than Andy Sipowicz (sp?)?

I think Chi McBride from Boston Public could be pretty good.

I always liked Andre Braugher, too. But since Homicide and Law and Order crossed over, I don't know how that would work.

It's obvious that Tom Brady was born to play this role.

I'd love it if Andre Braugher came on, good idea...

I recorded "Thief" on FX just because he was on it... wasn't too bad, but since after like 6 episodes i'm not seeing it, it must have been cancelled..

Anyway, with him being on Homicide, they could easily make him a transfer from Baltimore.. I don't see where that's a problem at all...

Duh, now that I think about it... The character "Munch" was on Homicide and is now on Law & Order: SVU, so there's even a precedent.

True, and he's a good character.. but I think Homicide and SVU are the only places where he's had a consistent role?

So hypothetically, if you were getting ready to hit on a hot chick, and then you hear her phone ring, but it's the law and order noise.....you just keep walking?

they didn't? well, guess I can delete the few I haven't seen yet. I really didn't like it all that much, but when I saw there were only a few episodes left, I figured I'd muck through. but if they didn't finish it, I'm not going to bother.

I especially enjoyed how they put major spoilers in the show description, which I always ended up stumbling across when I went to record the show.

It wasn't the best show out there, but I thought it was pretty solid...

However, I can see why it didn't catch on, especially being on FX...

I actually thought Theif was really good for the first episode or two. Just kind of fell completely flat after that, for some reason.

just didn't seem very consistent with me. these guys are all like the epitome of careful, professional bank robbers. they don't do jobs close to home, they don't interact with each other outside of the jobs. a great deal of mention is made about how they focus on the details

so, they pull of the first job...and throw all of that out the window. they steal stuff they weren't supposed to. they get made. they all follow Andre home. and then, suddenly, they have money problems and need to pull of this huge complicated heist with zero prep. in like 3 episodes they went from they guys from Heat to the Keystone Kops.

plus, Linda Hamilton is like 90 years old now.

That was the hole point though I thought.. the fact that their rules are all blowing up...

Well if they want a TV show, there has to be some sort of conflict usually.

Yeah, and my impression is that it was money woes...

but i guess your point is how do these lifelong criminals all of a sudden have major money woes at the same time?

I forgot that Munch started out on Homicide.

I wasn't sure if Braugher died at the end of Homicide or not. I am thinking that I remember the Baldwin brother that was on it dying, but can't remember if that was in the finale.

Was talking about this with the little woman and brought up the Andre Brougher possibility...

She made a good point... I see little chance that they make it so both of the detectives are black males... It just doesn't seem like something they would do...

I HATED Dennis Farina on L&O. In fact I've watched hardly any of the series since he started, and if they replace him with someone good I'll watch a lot, once again.

He was way too over-the-top for me.
