Wayne Chrebet retires after 11 seasons

hxxp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2467826

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Jets receiver Wayne Chrebet officially retired Friday, ending an 11-year career in which he overcame long odds to become one of the best players in team history.

Though Chrebet said in January he quitting after repeated concussions, the team had a lavish retirement ceremony for him, complete with video highlights, framed jerseys and 3-foot Chrebet bobblehead dolls. His wife, parents and sons flanked him on stage.

"I'm thankful to everybody who was with me for the ride," said the 32-year-old Chrebet, who paused several times to compose himself. "I'm just overwhelmed by the support I've received over the years and especially on days like this." ...

I was a huge Chrebet fan and I loved the "no gloves" approach and his walk on story and the whole thing. He is not only a big inspiration to let nobody stand in your way of your dreams but also for 5'9'' skinny white guys like me thats theres ALWAYS A CHANCE you can make a NFL squad.

Always seemed like a cool guy who "played the game the way it was supposed to be played."

But is he?

I guess because he was undrafted you can say he made his way. Or maybe the draftniks got it wrong.

Is Ricky Proehl seen in the same light? He's 6 ft. Maybe these guys are just good and not "overachievers".

*Insert race card here.

I actually really would like him but since he handed the Bucs one of the worst losses that I've ever lived through I have to call him one of my favorite SOB's to hate.

Him and Ricky Proehl. Hate his guts. Would love to buy both of them a beer now that they've retired.

Me, I've always had a fondness for slack-assed underachievers. Different strokes.

Has Proehl officially retired? I remember seeing him on NFL Network about 6-8 weeks ago, and him saying he wants to play again, he's discussing with his family, etc.

I thought I heard he had officially retired but maybe he was just considering it. Still hate him though and will withhold the beer until he does retire.

I'm sure he'll take that into consideration in his decision .
