FOFC Highlander #13 Auto Racing Edition - Results Posted

I'm not really a racing fan, but this is the idea I came up with...

Billy Bob drives a race car in a bit of a different sort of racing system. Races are 50 laps long, but a lap only counts if the driver finishes within a time limit of 2 minutes. Any laps that are longer than 2 minutes have to be repeated. Billy Bob is a very consistent driver, but he occasionally forgets to shift at the right times. If he does everything right, he will finish a lap in 1:40. Judging by the severity of his shifting problems, he also has an equal chance at finishing the lap in 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, or 2:20. These are the only times that Billy Bob ever finishes with.

For this race, I will generate lap times until Billy Bob finishes 50 counted laps. What will be Billy Bob's final time at the end of the 50th counted lap. Remember that the final time will also include the times of the non-counting laps.

Since this is gonig out so late, I'll hold the guesses open until 6:00pm Central Time (7:00pm EDT).

Questions? Feel free to ask in the thread.

If he goes exactly 2:00, does that count as a lap or not?

If my math is correct, Billy Bob should be expected to require 84 laps since only 60% of his laps will count. At an average of 2 minutes per lap, he should finish in 168 minutes, or 2 hours 48 minutes. Nobody guessed this exact answer, but there were a number of guesses very close to this mark. Now to the results:

It turned out to be a great day for racing, but that may have worked against Billy Bob as he seemed to have trouble concentrating. Laps 1 and 2 went smoothly, but the next 2 laps failed to meet the time limit. Four laps in and 50% success is not a great start. After this short stumble, Billy Bob got things together and had 10 laps counted by lap 15...jumping up to 66% success and a total time of 29:40.

At this point things really started to click. Billy Bob counted another 10 laps out of his next 12. At 20 laps out of 27, he is now at 74% with a total time of 51:50.

Cooling down only slightly, Billy Bob managed to go 10 out of the next 14 and was able to count his 30th lap after lap 41...73% with a total time of 78:50.

Billy Bob continued to cool down taking 18 laps to count his next 10. He now has 40 counted laps out of 59...68% for a total time of 115:40.

The last 10 laps took the longest to achieve by taking 19 laps. 53% on this stage, but Billy Bob managed to count all 50 laps in a total of 78 actual laps. Coming in slightly ahead of the 2 minute average the final race time was 154:50.

Nobody guess this exact time, but the closest guess was 159 minutes by the currently most winningest Highlander....Pumpy Tudors.

Congratulations.
