Help me ID this movie

[Groundhog]

I was on holidays a few months ago and saw the last half of a movie in my hotel room. I made a mental note to hire it out so I could watch the first half, but I've completely forgotten the name of the film...

It was about a bunch of youngish Italian-Americans in the States, aged around mid to late 20s. They were from a rough neighbourhood. The main character, a mechanic, meets a nice girl from a rich neighbourhood, and starts seeing her. He takes it seriously, she's just in it for a bit of fun. He finally convinces her to let him meet her parents and they go out for dinner, but the mechanic's friend - a sleazy, criminal type - breaks in to the girl's parents hotel room and messes up everything as revenge for the mechanic guy blowing his friends off to hang with the girl. The girl finds out it was him who did it, and leaves the mechanic.

I then forget much of what happens for the next part, but the sleazy dude ends up becoming a punk and rubs a major crime boss the wrong way. The crime boss tries to knock him off by sending his son, who is sort of a friend of the sleazy guy's, to assassinate him. He tries to sniper him, but hits the mechanic instead. At the mechanic's funeral the sleazy guy then assassinates the crime boss.

The theme of the movie was really about getting out of the bad neighbourhood they were in, and the mechanic and sleazy guy had intended to do just that before all the crap went down.

I think it was called something Heights or something Hill, along those lines, but nothing on imdb is jogging my memory...

Anyone recognise this film?

I actually have a movie I've been meaning to ask about. I've seen most of this movie. It was while I was in college, so it probably came out sometime during the mid-late 90's.

It was about a group of homeless kids and their lives. I think this one girl runs away from home and gets to whatever city they were in and hooks up with the main character guy. Occasionally through the film, they would cut to the main character giving an interview about the events that happened. At the end, they all are trying to get out of the city. They wait for one of their friends, who never shows because he had OD'ed the night before and they didn't know. As they wait, shit goes down and the main character gets killed.

Sorry for the vagueness of it. I only remember bits and pieces of it.
