Anybody playing bbcf?

I haven't seen much chatter on the game since the last patch. What's the verdict? Is anybody playing? Does anybody like the game?

We are about to hit the playoffs in the FOFC-BBCF league.

It's pretty solid, in my opinion. I played it for quite a while right after it came out but have moved onto other sports for the moment (other than FOFC-BBCF in which my Sooners are undefeated ). I'll definitely go back to it once college football season rolls around again.

I'm in cartman's league as well. If it wasn't for the multi-player aspect I wouldn't be playing the game at all, though.

Pretty much the same for me. The game is a lot of fun, but it just seems to run too slowly for me, so I let cartman sim my games for me.

To answer the original question, the amount of time that it took for the last major patch to come out completely killed all interest I had in the game. I patched the game, played it for 30 minutes, and haven't given it a second thought since. Maybe when college football season gears up I'll get into it again.

I only play it for FOFC-BBCF. I don't really play it solo. I think I made it through a half season. Not that it's bad, it's just not....I dunno. It doesn't hold my attention like other sims do.

I gave it a 2nd go around after the last patch. While many things were improved, the polls were worse in many ways. I would often see a team (often from a non-BCS conference) ranked in the top 3 in one poll and in the high teens in the other. There was also a lot of random movement after a team was done playing the year, but while other teams were still playing. When I got a job at a top program, I started the season ranked 1st. After 9 games, I was undefeated, had beaten 6 ranked opponents, but fell to 3rd in the polls. I ended up with 1 loss, had the toughest SOS in the country, but ended up outside the championship game. Even worse, one of the teams playing in the championship had 2 losses. That extreme scenario was rare, but the polls just didn't make a lot of sense.

Overall, I think the game was improved a lot with the last patch, but I eventually put the game away because the polls were just too frustrating.

I've loved the game all along, and during the football season, it was my most played game. I'm not even remotely anal, so many of the problems didn't bother me, if I even noticed them at all.

Once this football season starts, I'm sure I'll be playing a lot again.

Yeah, the polls and computer ratings are bad. I offered my help on those on the GDS boards and got no response. Obviously I can help with the computer ratings more easily, but I don't see why a reasonable poll logic has to be so difficult.

Exactly the same for me. I'm playing only MP right now (the FOFC league is a BLAST), but I think I'll get back to SP at some point.

In a college football sim, the polls are EVERYTHING. If they're fucked up, then nothing else in the game matters because there is no accurate reflection of how you are doing.

TCY seems to have gotten it right, so I'm not going to excuse BBCF for screwing it up so bad. Either it works or it doesn't, and BBCF doesn't.

Agreed. When the polls are used to determine who plays in the championship game, and you get a result like Toddzilla does (toughest SOS and one loss loses out to a 2-loss team), that's a serious issue with the polls. It's not like he's bringing this up in every possible thread and starting new ones, but it's a legitimate beef to point out in a thread asking why no one is talking about it much.

We're using a playoff system with conference commissioner voting for the 5 at-large bids in the FOFC-BBCF, so the polls don't matter to us. My main gripes are some lingering multiplayer issues (which not everyone agrees with me on, so I won't bring them up here other than to say I think cartman has way too much to do manually that the game should be handling for him), problems with the play-by-play (outright missing plays primarily), and too many academic suspensions. I've also got some minor UI gripes (such as having a "last week's box score / pbp" item in the state to-do list for a multiplayer league; instead you have to dig through the UI for the first thing you REALLY want to do during an in-season stage), but they are minor.

I'm disappointed that the play-by-play has gone as long as it has without being patched, and the I'll have more control over the suspension thing when I'm recruiting my own players, so all-in-all not too bad yet.

I also have some of the described problems with "getting into" the game, but I haven't recruited any of my own players yet, so I'm not going to put that into the "ding" column just yet. I'm reserving judgement until after season 2.

I've been playing with the updated demo, and I think I'm going to buy it. The way the recruiting process has been redone has me sold.

Also, the only way Jim will make TCY2 is if I actually go ahead and buy this. It's some application of Murphy's Law.

Update on the update per Arlie:

Quote:
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on the update. I'm working through some of the issues people have raised and have made some headway on them. Here's an initial list of the features I am currently working on that are in the game (based on feedback):

1. Tightening up play by play - this involves adding the missing plays in the game log, updating some grammar/sp issues and cleaning up other aspects of it.
2. Improving the recruit pitch process - Now, you will get an email after you scout a recruit that gives some additional insight on his pitch. It's still going to be handled the same (ie, you only get 1 chance to get the bonus - no partial credit). But, now atleast you have more information to work with. It also adds another reason to scout players early.
3. Improve the transfer logic - if an effort is made to play the player in the prior season, it now means more. Also, I am working on some options for coaches to get more feedback on potential transfer risks when redshirting players.
4. Improved the polls - Strength of schedule has been made more of a factor. The main emphasis here has been trying to improve the poll logic in the middle weeks since that's where most of the remaining problems still remain. Usually, things work themselves out by the end of the season, but you sometimes see teams ride out some generious slotting in the middle of the season.
5. Other reported errors on the tech support forums. Most are pretty minor but I will keep reading the forum for issues.

I will also be adding a few new features and will get more info out on them once I get them working in the update. As an aside, I would like to setup a small group in addition to my first BETA team to take a look at this update and some of the changes over the next few weeks. This would involve some time devoted by the people involved and I would ask that they be current owners who are active in the game discussions (so that they know some of the issues). I am just looking for a few people, but if anyone is interested in this, please PM me and I will get back with you. You would have to sign a NDA, but you would get a chance to playtest the update and maybe even impact some of the features. Again, this is a beta testing position, so understand that before signing up. You may hit issues and errors in this process.

Thanks again and I will keep everyone posted.

FWIW,

This game is VERY good and has been getting playing time now that college football is just around the corner.

In fact, I haven't been playing NCAA 2007 on the 360 due to how much fun I'm having with BBCF.

Good job Arlie! Looking foward to the update.

Galaril - I have the BBCF-RealPack, but I don't remember if that includes the enzone art and midfield logos though?

Mizz,

I also have that and unfortunately that doesn't have it. Why it wasn't added by that owner I have no idea. These are some great mods.Alas

Get with ice or post over on the bbcf forums, someone is bound to have that laying around somewhere.

Although I do have them in folders within the game if you want me to zip them up and send them to you, drop me a line: tmvolm AT centurytel.net

I bought this last nite... I'd had an itch to buy it for awhile now, but just hadn't gotten around to it.

My first impressions are favourable. I started up a career with Central Michigan, who are pretty terrible outside of some mediocre-ish QBs, an average RB and an average DT, and watched our first 2 games.

I think as far as flow goes, this is the best designed GDS game yet. It took me no time at all to figure out how to navigate my way to the neccessary screens, and it was also clear as to what action I had to perform next in the pre-season stuff, which had been a problem for me in other GDS title.

The actual PBP is fun to watch. I haven't tried my hand at playcalling, but I was watching it in average speed and didn't notice anything too suspect - apart from maybe a 4th down conversion in the 2nd Q (though it was a short yardage 4th down) that really wasn't neccessary and led to points for my opponent.

I'm yet to try my hand at recruiting. How difficult is it? With a team like Central Michigan should I just recruit low and stick to players that are interested in my school, or can you nab the odd steal?

Also, is there an reference somewhere for the grading of the colours that are used on most screens (ie. the player talent grades, that range from like brown (bad) to blue, which I take it is the best)?
