Medieval 2: Total War

i haven't played games in a while (since video editing became my new hobby), but this is the first game i've been waiting eagerly for in a while. i didn't even realize it was gonna come out in August. i was thinking sometime in the late fall, to be honest.

this game is gonna make me stay up late. you don't even know how bad i wanna play this game.

can a brutha get a witness?

This game has gone from instant buy to wait, see, and possibly buy when the price falls.

Why?

1) To deal with the fact that they are covering like 500 years of history, they have removed dates all together, opting for turn numbers.

2) Nobility actually age at a rate seperate to turn numbers. As it stands, you could span 500 years of history with 3-4 kings only. The entire fun of a family history is gone.

3) Short turn limit. 150-200 turns, if memory serves, gets you all the way till the end. That's covering the late 11th century to the conquest of the Americas. By the time you build a medieval army, you'll be ready for gunpowder practically.

Totally dissappointing.

yeesh, those are certainly some curve-balls. but it's still a must-buy for me due to the following reasons:

1. i don't play the Total War series for historical accuracy. i play them for the battles and for empire building.

2. mods could/will fix any of the things like age-rate. but yeah, that was a poor decision on their part. i used to like to keep the family name intact (as opposed to killing off all the king's natural sons and having the thrown go to like my daughter's husband). it'd be so fun so try to keep "the bloodline" intact by protecting "the last rightful heir to the thrown".

3. i have a short attention span so this might not be that bad, but yeah, it'd suck to be able to play like 10 campaigns a month due to each campaigns shortness.

all in all i'm getting it no matter what. Medieval:Total War is my favorite non-text sim game of all time.

I hope its not similar to how Total Rome was. That game had problems.

such as?

i liked the game, but i didn't like the time period nearly as much as i thought i would. i just want to control knights, bring them to the middle east and slaughter countless muslims. God wills it.

The AI was pretty plain. Too make things tougher, your enemies just had more morale.

Roman cavalry is too easy to build.

Every battle came down to a flanking manuver.

No real reason to have realistic armies.

City battles were cheesy. They were always a matter of racing out of the back gate, and then taking the AI in the flank...

Got too damn repetitive.

yeah, i don't remember there being any problems. i was personally more interested in the medieval era though, and M:TW got more play than R:TW. but i love being able to break into castles and fight in the streets.

yep

Medieval Total War was way better than Total War Rome.

The AI was a lot better and smarter in MTW than Total War Rome.

ROME Total war's AI was a freaking joke... i mean bad. And Phalanx type units were unbeatable head on. also....when you got a half decent general, you win every battle no matter what.

Now i had some mod that fixed a ton of stuff and made Phalanx units much more realistic. They still kicked ass but weren't unbeatable. With that mod... it was pretty fun.

MTW is still the best.

Best mod for Rome Total War. Played this game more than MTW, but I can see where breaking into castles and going on crusades could be enticing.
