Treasure Hunters - anyone watching (spoilers inside)

So far i think its pretty cool, part amazing race, part survivor, part something new, since they actually have to figure out the clues.

the teams are pretty cool. geniuses, ex cia guys, ex airforce, ex miss usa girls, grad students, and a couple family teams.

i am again baffled by people that sign up for shows like this and cant swim.

10 teams of 3 started out on a treasure hunt...each hour show has the teams racing to find and figure out different clues...at the end of each show, there are enough clues for every team but one, so that team is eliminated. the racing is rather difficult (running up mountains, snorkelling in open surf) and then even after you have the clues, they arent easy.

I like it so far. I'm an Amazing Race fan, but so far I think this show could give it a run for its money.

Hehe... definately painting the preacher's team in a poor light. I like what looks to be forcing the teams to work together, tho.

one of the things that i am intersted to see is if the teams can end up going the completely wrong way, since they have to organize their own travel through Orbitz...that could be pretty funny if someone totally misreads the clue and goes to a completely wrong spot and then stands there like a retard.

i am also interested to see what kind of bonus there is for coming in first...one of the the things that i always thought was stupid about AR was that as soon as the next episode started, the team that won the show before lost their advantage, and everyone started out equal again....hopefully there will be more benefits for being the fastest to finish in this game.

i also like the fact that you have to do more than just get from place to place, perform some physical task, then go to the next place...the more thought provoking aspect of this game is appealing to me, so it will probably get a seasons pass from my tivo if the next show is any good.

if anyone missed it and wants a synopsis, let me know, i sent a brief one to oliegirl that i can forward to you.

?

Amazing Race typically starts the teams 12 hours after they arrive - so the first place team by (say) 18 minutes will get an 18 minute head start. There are checkpoints during some tasks (flights, etc) that will even teams out, but not typically after a stage.

Geez, first TAR has the Black family and now Treasure Hunters has the Browns. Dang racist TV people.

I didn't like the first hour when the groups were split up because the editing between the two groups was making me nuts. I do like how it looks like The Amazing Race with more thinking puzzles.

I think the preacher is painting his team in a poor light. How on earth can this guy call himself a "Man of God" with any kind of clear conscious? Add the annoying screaming lady on that team into the equation and I want them gone and gone quickly.

Decent diversion, and I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Things that bother me:

1. The host - he looks like a clone of Stone Philips, with the same amount of personality

2. Music - everytime they are trying to build tension, I hear a swarm of bees.

3. Editing - sure, it's a reality show, but why let your interns cut the shots?

Thing I like:

1. You can go the wrong way.

2. You have to solve a clue to figure out where you are supposed to be if you go the wrong way.

3. Puzzles. It's not The Mole, but it will do.

I'll stick with it and see where it goes. It has promise.

Loved that they let the one team travel to the wrong place. Was expecting them to do that in Alaska: let 'em guess, load 'em on a chopper, and fly them a few hundred miles out of the way. But glad to see them do it at least once (and likely more throughout the race).

We'll keep watching, it's got our interest piqued.

I enjoyed it but how dumb do you have to be to not get Mt. Rushmore? And I have knicknamed the guys from Texas "Team Mullet"

And Saldana, you may want to add a spoiler tag to the title.

i thought it was even better that they stood around and argued while there wasnt another team in sight about whether they were in the wrong place. the only thing funnier was team mullet (as you call them) trying to decide if the random rock they picked up off the ground was the artifact or not.

I liked the guy on the genius team that said they needed harder puzzles.

He was right, I got most of those puzzles almost the instant they were revealed. Having said that, was that the same genius that sent them to Mount Teddy Roosevelt? I felt pretty bad for the Young Professionals who got talked out of going to Mount Rushmore and then got eliminated. I guess they need to learn to be more assertive.

Team mullet is going to drive me crazy. Their "leader" is so completely stupid, but he doesn't seem to realize it. It was painful to watch him try to open the time capsule.

It started out funny but then moved on to painful. The poor guy is just so dumb but he doesn't realize it. At least he was smart enough to make an alliance with the geniuses to get through the puzzle.

At that point it came down to the fact that Wonder Boy couldn't read directions. It just goes to show that intelligence and wisdom are very different things. I don't see these geniuses doing well out in the real world.

me either...my early pick to win the whole thing is the ex air force team...they have the brains and the physical tools...the cia guys dont really have the physical abilities, and the geniuses and grad students dont seem to be able to think outside the box very well.

Antmeister and I finally saw it and really, really enjoyed it.

My breakdown of the teams:

Young Professionals - One of the team members mentioned how something didn't feel right and didn't say anything... assert yourself man! That's why they lost.

Geniuses - Not geniuses at all; maybe they need to "dumb it down", like Francis said, and not overanalyze stuff.

Brown Family - I really like this team, they're somewhat of an underdog because they're physically challenged, but I love their relaxed attitude.

Southie Boys - The only thing I remember about them is their Boston accent.

Miss USA - Not crazy about them especially when one of the chicks mentioned manipulating some of the teams... don't like that attitude.

Ex-CIA - They're logical brains might get them far, but in the first episode, they didn't fair very well. I believe they were 5th out of the 10 teams.

Grad Students - Don't remember them much but I'm sure their hotness will get them far.

Air Force - They have incredible athleticism and might be the team to beat. I would have loved to see Marines on the show. Marines vs. Air Force... which one will outwit, outlast, and outhustle? Oh well, maybe they'll do something similar next season.

Fogal Family - Ahh yes, man of the cloth... what a hypocrite bastard. "We might have to tell a few white lies"... white lies my ass, he stole that clue from that chick. This is the team I'm rooting against... I dislike people that call themselves "Followers of God" and lie, cheat, and steal.. where are their values?!

Wild Hanlons - Their dumbness makes for some good tv IMO. That guy with the mullet cracks me up... looking at a rock and wondering if it was a clue? LOL! I can't believe they left the Geniuses behind after opening the safe... "Ya'll from Texas? So are we! Let's team"... that was classic, I thought they'd stick around to see if the Geniuses could open it but they left them high and dry. Who knows, maybe they weren't allowed to stay. Anyway, they're an interesting team.

Doesn't the host sound like a Captain-Kirk wannabe? I don't know why, but that annoys the shit outta me. He can't sound like that all the time.

Good show, I love DVR but with that $10,000 prize, we might have to watch it live and text in our answers. Yeah, that's how they getcha.

I watched it last night. my first reality show, a genre I normally detest. It was "ok", about what I expected - lots of editing to make each team fit into the stereotype, and as much manufactured drama as possible.

I would have liked more puzzles like the combination at the end, where we at home have a chance to solve them. Still entertaining though.

btw, fun factoid - the capitol building in Lincoln is nicknamed "the penis of the prairie"

Not as bad as I thought it would be. The Ex-CIA team were never really in the CIA though. It said they did a CIA co-op program together. And the So-called "genius" team has 9 bachelor and 1 master's degree between them. Seems like they did a lot of schooling but doesn't necessarily make them geniuses as can be seen from the first episoide.

My favorite part of the show was watching thhe Hanlons pick up rocks as clues.

Watching that 2nd episode again. Those rednecks trying to get the combination has got to be some classic reality TV moments:

4 times 5 is 20, that's it.
26 letters, times 2, 52 has to be that.
Write down these numbers, 9312, give me every combination of that.
Can't be 6 digits, more like 4 or 3, I'm pretty sure it's 3.

The geniuses have to be kicking themselves when they watch that episode and see that they actually agreed to help those morons.

dola: Add the attempt to even find the artifact, and their early prediction of where they were going "Colorado, has to be that, we're near there." and I almost want them to last a few more shows just for the entertainment value alone.

Did I hear them right when they were in the cave, did he actually say, "That's it over there right next to the caution sign." I wasn;t listening closely but thought that's what I heard. If so, that might have even been funnier than the combination attempts.

The Wild Hanlons are providing some priceless TV. They are cracking me up!

"So we've decided to go 80 miles out of our way to get a burger in the middle of an elimination challenge?"

It's so funny that it hurts!

If I were on one of the better teams, I'd drag the Wild Hanlons with me for entertainment value. They would take up an elimination slot so that another team (a real contender) wouldn't be able to advance.

Looks like Grad Students, although showing lots of heart will be eliminated due to the injury. Previews from next week show the Browns back in it and that would be the logical reason - if the Grad Students couldn't continue.

I'm loving this show.

It's a great show, but the commercialism is so pervasive, I actually wondered to my wife whether the show's producers directed the Hanlons to a Burger King.

At any rate, I can already tell there will be those annoying artificial bottlenecks that keep teams from running away from each other like the "no canoeing after 5:30" rule in last night's show. Given that the Zoomies seemed to complete their tasks as quickly as possible, it indicated they had no chance of actually being able to set out before that deadline (all the tents already set up and waiting for the teams would also point to this conclusion). I know it makes for good TV to level out the playing field, but that was totally arbitrary and somewhat silly.

Yeah Wolfpack, one of my few beefs with the Amazing Race is that they are always allowing the teams to catch up to the others at airports or the site of the next clue (does not open until the next morning.) Drives me crazy, but I suppose it wouldn't be as much fun if one team had a huge lead either. To get to the river before 5:30, the Air Force team would have had to figure out the clue in the mine the second they got there, and then risk getting a speeding ticket. It was pretty silly.

The Hanlons make my brain bleed with their stupidty. I just cannot believe that even they would risk elimination to go get something to eat. And the amount of time they take to figure out the puzzles...oh my god. Like I said makes my brain bleed.

And how about what the Fogal's did after the Boston guys helped carry their canoe? Man I hope the Browns and Hanlons beat them next round. It's too bad about the Grad students. They showed a lot of heart and strength too carrying the injured girl. And still managed to beat the last two teams.

I always wonder what the camera guy is thinking like with this or when the genius people were roaming around the other mountain.

Does the camera guy get food?

Agreed about the Wild Hanlons. I really dislike the Fogels, and the stunt on the 13th star sealed my strong dislike for them. I hope they are eliminated soon. That is too bad about the grad students. They really did show tremendous heart assuming her injury is serious.

My wife and I were discussing how we dislike how they hold the teams back as well, but as she pointed out, at least the Air Force team and the other quick teams got more rest by getting there quickly. With the shortened sleep schedule the night before, that was a big plus. Still, I'd like the artificial barriers to be removed.

Yea, the Fogels have been playing dirty all game. Remember when the dad grabbed the clue out of the water from the girl in the first episode.

The geniuses have to be kicking themselves when they watch that episode and see that they actually agreed to help those morons.

in hindsight, i'd be glad. i'd rather those fucktards stay in it over somebody who could actually beat us

the only beef i have with the hanlons is how bad they make texas look. i wish they could go 15 seconds without bringing that up. otherwise they are great entertainment.

That kills me that the Fogals pulled that shit on the Southie Boys after the boys helped carry their canoe for 9 miles (I think that's how long they said the portage was, either that or somebody was exaggerating). At least they were kind enough to pray for their competitors after they screwed them over. Lol.

The big question is if they win, would they tithe their winnings to the Church? You could help out alot of unfortunate souls with that money.

The Fogals have to go. I can't take watching those hypocrits for another second.

I saw it mentioned earlier, it looks like the Browns are back in the previews. I liked that team so it's good to see them stay on a little longer but they really don;t have much of a chance as I would be concerned about that one guy's health. I don't know how much more his body can take. If they do get back in because of the injury, does that mean that there would be some sort of deal worked out where the Grad students would get some portion if the Browns win. That would seem fair, being how they beat the Browns while carrying an injured teammate.

As far as the Fogals screwing over the other teams in that eposode, why on earth would you chose an ex-CIA team to screw over? They probably still have enough connections to make your life a living hell, if they were the type to hold a grudge.

I want to see what the Hanlons did in that cave for 10 hours! I bet they turned over every rock looking for clues.

The one that didn't go in the cave seems to be even dumber than the other two. If he would have gone in, it would have taken weeks.
