Dumb FM2005 question

Yes! I have finally migrated my little brother away from FIFA and onto FM. I'm letting him use my copy of FM05 until he proves to have the attention span for buying another copy of FM06 for him.

So here's my question: What are the steps I need to take to start a new game of 05? Obviously I need to patch it, but I can't remember if I have to fix the German national team and all too?

Start him with a big team, too. Most new players seem to be more comfortable that way.

I just bought FM2006, so I'm a newbie too. I played CM4 back in the day, but I remember nothing other than that my first team ever was Blackpool, so I feel an obligation to be them this time too.

Will that make this more difficult for me since I'm basically starting as a begginer again?

1st) CM4 isn't "back in the day".

2nd) Blackpool is English League Two, right? That's a fairly low level. But this version of FM is a lot more... forgiving. I remember that in CM4 the transfer market was basically non-existent. In FM06 transfers are so much better, that you have a lot more control over your team.

Maybe it was CM3. It was back in like 2001 or so.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

CM 03/04 -- Late '03
CM4 -- Early '03
CM 02/03 -- Late '02
CM 01/02 -- Late '01 (2nd best version ever IMO)
CM 00/01 -- Late '00
CM 99/00 -- Late '99 (my first ever version)

Ok, it was 01/02.

On a different note - I am so lost. So many ratings make no sense to me. Goalkeepers "Tendency to Punch"? "Eccentricity"? So confusing.

I wish there was an "Overall" rating to help newbies like me out.

aren't most of them listed in the manuel? tendency to punch is how often they'll punch the ball away versus try to catch it. "eccentricity" is like...fabian barthez. He's a 20 for eccentric. Prone to wandering around, taking crazy chances, etc.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but sense you mentioned them...

Tendency to Punch: Not a 'skill' but rather an 'attribute'. On crosses, determines whether he tries to catch the ball or elects to punch it away.

Eccentricity (this one is more of a guess, for me): Not a 'skill' but rather an 'attribute'. Whether he comes way out of the goal to keep the ball moving, whether he's very steady (gives up difficult goals but never has really bad games if eccentricity is low), or very streaky (can steal games for you but at the same time can lose them for you) if it is high.

I don't think any of the attributes are listed in the 06 manual. Marc gave a definition for some of them in his hints and tips guide though. I realized this the other day when I was looking for a definition of man management. It can't be found anywhere - that's pretty bad.

They should step up their documentation in the next version. Just look at the guide that came out with OOTP 2006 - over 350 pages.

Yes, you have to download the fake.lnc file to 'unlock' the German and Holland national teams and rename things like Euro Cup to UEFA Cup.

The manual to each new version of the game seems to be different. I flipped through some of my old ones and CM03/04 seems to be the last one where they actually gave descriptions to the attributes. Here is what that manual has for descriptions to the ones Schmidty asked about:

Eccentricity: They say every keeper has to be a bit mad. This is how likely he is to do the unexpected.

Tendency to Punch: The keeper's tendency to punch rather than catch the ball.

I can't get training schedules customs into the game . I am putting them into the schedules folder in my documents folder but they don't show up in the game when I go to edit training schedules. Anyone had a similar problem like this?

Ok, I have another question:

Is there any way to scout an entire nation (kind of like OOTP2006)?

Also, I see a lot of unsigned U20 players, but it won't let me sign them. How do I go about signing them?

Is there any way to edit an international competition?

I'd like to edit the Copa America or create a new competition and tell it how to pick the teams. At all possible? Possible in 2006 or 2007?
