FOF--Putting a Safety at nickel CB

If you have a SS that has much better skills and ratings than your 3rd CB, will he be ok at the nickel CB position? We are talking like 21 rating pts difference. Or will he incure a position penalty that would impair his ability to play nickel CB?

Yep. I'm a big fan of playing guys out of position all the time. I do it on the OL quite frequently.

I have that exact situation with my CFL team right now, well, at least I did until my starting SS got hurt, but anyway yes, I put the SS at nickel and he performed pretty well. Certainly a lot better than the roster filler I would have had at nickel.

I'd imagine that there is at least a minor ratings hit, since the game always wants to plug CB's in there itself.

And I'm still of the belief that playing guys out of position in general face the same consequences they would if they were to formally switch positions.

I do it all the time with safeties/corners and guards/centers. Try to get the best players on the field and get them developed as well and quickly as possible.

I also frequently play backup safeties at nickel CB or CB's at backup safeties if they have the skills I look for in the position.

They do not get a rating decline when you switch position only on the depth chart?

Because if you do a position change they usually get a decline.

I do it all the time as usually my backup safeties are better than my backup CB's. I try to always put as nickel and dime the guys with the highest int's rating and they always pick a good amount.
