Quarterback/Defensive Leaders Affinity Connection

I just made an offer to a player that would become a leader for my secondary. A ton of my secondary guys are happy (as planned). However, my QB is disappointed. This is the first time I have seen a link between QB and defensive leaders in the affinity department.

Interestingly, this never shows up on the QB's player card, nor does it appear on the Attitude screen for my roster.

So my question is - is this just a programming bug that shows up in the FA signing process or is there an actual affinity/conflict link between QBs and defensive leaders?

Anyone have a definitive answer?

The game's help file (let's not get anyone started on this again) sayeth:

Conflicts or affinities can affect the performance of every player in that group. Quarterbacks may have conflicts or affinities with all of the other leaders on the team.

To me, this suggests that:

-yes, it was put into the game deliberately, it's not a bug in the notification system

-yes, the chemistry stuff still applies between QBs and defensive position leaders

-this does not appear in the game in any other fashion (player cards, attitude advisory page) out of some kind of space-saving decision

But I have nothing definitive to offer, at all, of course.

In this case, the help file is incorrect. Thanks for the report.

On a related note, I would like to see affinity/conflict apply to the coaching staff. If it's really bad, we might see a pop-up stating that the defensive coordinator just took a swing at the offensive coordinator on the sidelines.

Good 'ole Buddy Ryan. Man, myth, legend.

Just doing a wiki search on Buddy revealed that his two sons are the DC's for Baltimore and Oakland. I had no idea.

So are quarterbacks totally meaningless in regards to team chemistry? Or do their affinities (or lack thereof) with backfield leaders mean something? Because I don't think I've ever seen a QB be a backfield leader which leads me to think there is something up with their relationship to that position group as well.

Quarterbacks are the lynchpin for offensive team chemistry. The goal is to get a quarterback that has a strong affinity with all three offensive position group leaders.

The game isn't set up for them to be a position group leader...that's why you have never seen one as a backfield leader...

There's nothing definitive about the "lynchpin" stuff... but it's true that QBs are treated differently. They are not part of your backfield group - that's only RB and FB players.

Each QB on your team interacts with the position leader from each of your offensive groups -- backs, receivers, and line. If you work at your leadership structure, you can indeed arrange QBs with double or even triple affinities.

Whether QB affinities benefits the QB play, that of the affected group, both, or neither... I don't think there's any easy way to tell.
