Good News For Veterans Out There

They found the laptop that contained the personal information of 26.5 million veterans. This is very good news.

The government has recovered the stolen laptop computer and hard drive with sensitive data on up to 26.5 million veterans and military personnel. The FBI said Thursday there is no evidence that anyone accessed Social Security numbers and other data on the equipment.

Good to hear. I'm not so sure I believe the whole "there is no evidevence blah blah blah". I'm not too up to date on this whole situation but I know I got my letter probably about a month ago so its been at LEAST that long since it's been missing and what other reason would this person have to steal something like that other than taking all the information possible. Not that i'm all too worried, i'm a 22 yr old college student with debt, so it's not like i have many assets, but for the other 26,499,999 people i'm sure many have reason to worry.

There is no way for them to know for certain that the data wasn't accessed.

The whole "there is no evidence..." line is just to shine some positive light on the whole screw-up.

VA settled the lawsuit for $20 million. I wonder what my cut will be once they pay off expenses?

Oh, I just read the AP article. Money is only going to vets who show they had emotional distress over the incident or show the information was used for identity theft.
