Star Jones booted from the View

Not that I secretly watch this show...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13594874/

Quote:
NEW YORK - Star Jones Reynolds was booted from “The View” Wednesday, one day after surprising ABC and Barbara Walters by saying on the air that she wouldn’t be returning to the daytime talk show in the fall.

Reynolds was quickly erased from the show’s opening credits, now down to three women from the usual five.

“It is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table,” show creator Walters said. “Therefore, regrettably, Star will no longer be on this program.”

ABC had decided against renewing Reynolds’ contract months ago and the show was planning to let Reynolds announce it later this week, according to Walters. Reynolds could say whatever she wanted to about why she was leaving, “and we would back her up,” the longtime ABC newswoman said.

Instead, Walters said she felt blindsided when Reynolds broke the news Tuesday, then was quoted in People magazine as saying she felt like she was fired.

“We gave her time to look for another job and hoped that she would announce it on this program and leave with dignity,” Walters said. “But Star made another choice.”

Reynolds’ spokesman did not return calls and e-mails seeking comment.

Walters didn’t discuss on the air why Reynolds, an original cast member who’s been on the show for nine years, wasn’t being asked back. She said in an interview Tuesday that research showed audience members were turned off by Reynolds’ dramatic weight loss and glitzy wedding to banker Al Reynolds in 2004.

Reynolds later retorted that TV ratings and her book sales indicated this wasn’t true.

“The View” is bringing on Rosie O’Donnell to replace Meredith Vieira in September, and the hunt is now on for Reynolds’ replacement. Walters said Reynolds may still appear on the show in recorded segments.

Supposedly a big reason why was her constant plugging on air to get free stuff for her wedding. Seeing as I have watched all of 2 1/2 minutes of the show, I couldn't really say.

Rosie also said she was dishonest talking about how she lost all the weight. She would extol her diet and exercise plan and fail to mention that she also had her gut stapled shut.

Has anyone read her book? I haven't read it, but Adam Carrolla has his guests read excerpts from the book and all I have to say is... fly little butterfly... fly away

Her book is the biggest crock I've ever heard.

I find it pretty amusing how quickly this show is falling apart since Meredith Vieira announced she was leaving. It's a total trainwreck now and it's only going to get better.

What's the Over/Under for how long it takes for the fat ass liberal and the hottie, prude conservative to get into a fist fight on the air?

I think Star Jones was hired originally because she was a black fat woman. Now that she is thin they replaced her with the lesbian fat woman in Rosie. They were losing the fat viewer.

Barbara Walters feels betrayed.

Quote:
Star Jones: What's Next?

June 29, 2006

ABC has asked STAR JONES REYNOLDS not to return to "The View" following her impromptu on-air announcement that she would not be back next season. Amid all the feuding, what's next for Star?

In what has become the most dramatic departure from the long-running gabfest, Star has said that she's uncertain of what's in store for the future. "I'm not sure what the future holds," she said at the end of her surprise announcement on Tuesday. "But I'm sure who holds the future."

With a little faith, and perhaps a bit of good fortune on her side, viewers just might see the former "View" anchor back on TV sooner rather than later. ET broke the news several weeks ago that Star was reportedly shopping around a new talk show, shortly after it was announced that ROSIE O'DONNELL would be joining "The View" this fall.

Almost immediately following Tuesday's on-air shocker, news broke that Star had told People magazine -- on stands Friday -- that it wasn't her choice to leave. "What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season," she revealed to the mag. "I feel like I was fired."

Meanwhile, BARBARA WALTERS said Tuesday that she'd had no idea about the People article in a statement to the Associated Press: "I love Star and was trying to do everything I possibly could -- up until this morning when I was betrayed -- to protect her."

Star then responded to Barbara's comments during a radio interview, saying, "I was really shocked that Barbara would use such a strong word as betrayal, when for two months I walked in there every single day and did my job." She then added, "I don't feel a need to protect myself by lying to the viewers."

"And then there were three," said a solemn Barbara at the start of yesterday's broadcast as she sat with remaining co-hosts JOY BEHAR and ELISABETH HASSELBECK. Barbara then explained to viewers that Star would no longer be part of the show in light of her surprise announcement and for comments she has made to the media.

Walters said that it was a "difficult" day for all of them, and that Star knew for months that her contract wouldn't be renewed for a "variety of reasons," and that they wanted to give her the chance to exit the show gracefully.

But Barbara nonetheless remarked that, despite her removal from the show, "'The View' helped make Star a star and Star helped make 'The View' a success."

Star was obviously not about to let Barbara have the last word, and on Wednesday evening, she told The Daily News she felt humiliated when Barbara "did not call me herself" to inform her she would not be asked to return for another season.

"After nine years, she didn't call me," recalls Star, who says she received the phone call in April from her agents instead. "They told me my contract would not be renewed because my approval rating had gone down ... I was like, whoa!"

Star also expressed frustration at Barbara's decision to hire Rosie as MEREDITH VIEIRA's replacement.

"Rosie had attacked me on every single evening entertainment program," says Star. "Barbara used that week to call her and invite her to be part of a show that I helped launch nine years ago."

The implosion of the show is going to be more fun that the show itself ever was.

My money is actually on Joy to be the first one to tell Rosie to STFU and get over herself. I'm thinking the over/under is probably around 40-50 days on that.

My bet would be on the aforementioned hottie Elisabeth. She's a pretty staunch conservative, considering she spoke at the 2004 GOP convention. She and Rosie are going to be at each other's throats real quick.

I'm betting Rosie runs her off first.

But I might have my wife Tivo the show... just in case.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if it did turn out to be Joy who first puts Rosie in her place, I think they fall on the same side of most issues, so it'll have to be just the right topic for it to happen.

With Elisabeth, though, just throw anything remotely political out there and let the battle royale begin!

Is Elisabeth pretty smart? I'm just asking because she got the gig from winning Survivor.

Stars Jone pulled a lot of crap on the show, from her plugging her wedding and the sponsors of it, to not showing up for some reason and threatening to be fired (can't remember why), among other stuff. The Best Week Ever is a great program.

Do lesbians think like men? Maybe Rosie will put aside her political differences with Elizabeth to try and get a hug or 2. Maybe the sexual tension will be so thick they'll have to cut it with a knife. I'm gonna watch just on the off chance the phrase "Girl, i'd like to finger some sense into you", gets used.

Star Jones speaks out on Larry King Show
http://et.tv.yahoo.com/newslink/15097/

Quote:
Star Jones Speaks Out!

June 30, 2006

This week, ABC asked STAR JONES REYNOLDS not to return to "The View" following her impromptu on-air announcement that she would not be back next season. A day after she was gone, her chair was filled with temporary replacement RENEE ELISE GOLDSBERRY from "One Life To Live."

Now, the gloves are off and Star is speaking her mind! The former "View" co-host appeared on "LARRY KING Live" Thursday night and left no stoned unturned.

On whether she feels betrayed about being let go, Star said: "[Betrayed] is such a tough word. I looked at it as a business decision. But it became very, very personal in the media, and that started to hurt."

As for her former "View" co-hosts, Star said, "I hope I'm still friendly with them all."

Star also told Larry that she was informed in April that her contract would not be renewed for "The View": "I was told on April 21st that my contract wasn't going to be renewed [so] for two months I have been going to work every single day [with that knowledge.]"

As for why she decided to share the news on the show this week, Star adds, "I was told I would be able to leave on my own terms. The terms I chose was to tell the truth."

Other comments Star made to Larry on his show include:

On whether her weight loss was due to surgery: "I've always said it was a medical intervention. ... I mean, look at me, for goodness' sake!"

On whether she took advantage of her celebrity for her wedding to AL REYNOLDS: "Yes, I used my celebrity one hundred percent, and if you ask me if that was a mistake, I'm gonna tell you yes. And if you ask me, would I have done it the same way again, I would say no, one hundred percent."

On her husband's reaction to her being let go from "The View": "He said, 'Baby, put your stiff upper lip on, and you are going to shine.'"

On who she would like to replace her on "The View": "I really would like them to fill the seat with someone who brings diversity. ...It would be nice to see another African American professional [on the show]."

On what's next for her: "I'm gonna work on my new television projects. ... I'm gonna work on child advocacy, and I will continue to grow and become the person that I aspire to be every single day."

Star Jones should be happy about all the pub. What is it that they say? There is no such thing as bad publicity, and if we are talking about this, what do you think the mainstream audience who is more in tune with this "View" show and who care about celebrities are going to do when Jabb---er Star's new show comes on (which it will). Must be nice to be able to have that quick burst of viewers. Shame Arrested Devolpment couldn't come up with a good scandal.

I would argue that she is more of a player than a coach. I would consider Barbara Walters a coach/player, but not Jones.

I'm thinking fired in terms of your being terminated immediately for violating a company policy. I see Star as riding out her contract (and really, in the regular world, not many companies have "contracts" unless they are unions), and ABC decided to replace her with another player.
