FIFA World Cup 2006 - XBOX 360

Wow, EA has taken a GIANT step towards the Winning 11 series with this one. Much better gameplay.

The weakest link is the color commentary, which is repeated every game, but you can turn that off!

That being said, it freezes up during about 25% of my games.

Seems to be an issue ONLY with sports games.

Yeah, I've been enjoying this game myself, especially if I can get my next-door neighbor over to play in cooperative mode.

How old is your 360? Do you have the intercooler for it? I haven't had a freeze-up with mine yet.

Edit: Oh, and one thing I DID like about the commentary. When I was in the final game of my pool it referenced that I only needed a tie in order to get into the next round. That, and it also updated me on the scores of the other games as they were progressing. VERY cool.

I'd agree that is has taken a giant step towards Winning Eleven, but I still find Winning Eleven 9 (which is Backwards Compatible) to be a MUCH better game. I can't wait for the next version of Winning Eleven to come out on the Xbox 360.

Not that old - maybe 2 or 3 months? What's an intercooler? I remember I told my lady I needed to get some cooling device and she said, "You paid $500 for it (after games) and you need to buy something else so it doesn't break?" - it really hurt to hear that. ha

That is cool. Haven't heard it yet. Just doing North American qualifying so far

Quick question: When I go to the 'Squad' screen I can pick from like 23 players. When I go right before a game to pick, I can pick from about 40. Why can't I see those extra players in my Squad screen?

It was during NA Qualifying that I heard that commentary, btw.

When I bought my 360 I saw the intercooler there (a fan unit that hooks directly into the back). I asked the guy if you really need it - he said the 360 gets REALLY hot and will only make the system last longer. Since it was only $15, I figured "what the heck". I'm now glad I did - especially since my kids still have a tendency to play Spongebob for about 4 hours and then walk away from the system without turning it off.

As far as the squad stuff - I have no idea. I'm having a hard enough time trying to do a cross near the box, let alone pick and choose my roster

Last night I did a low/ground cross (X-twice) to Eddie Johnson who put it in off the near post. I was so happy.

I dont know about this game...ea sports still makes it so easy to score...nothing compared to winning eleven...in a ea game i can score 6 or 7 goals with ease....in winning eleven i have trouble scoring even one...just my opinon but i would rather have a challenge and feel like i have accomplished something when i do win

I stink at FIFA. Most goals I ever scored in game is 1. But then again, I don't play the game very often, so obviously YMMW.

There is nothing more frustrating than hitting the post. I get outshot, out-possessed, outscored...and then when I finally get close - doink - off the post! ARGH. (but fun)

Well. I think W11 is still the better game, I just think EA closed the gap considerably. Not to mention, as my age increases, the less time I have for videogames (2-4 hours a week), and I'm not very good anymore.

And personally, I'm tired of w11's crap graphics and uniforms. I know that sounds like a GaMeR g00f but whatever. I've got FM for a true sim.

Well I mean we are talking about XBox 360, so graphics matter somewhat to all of us .

No, I agree with you... FIFA's graphics are a big selling point (along with its licenses of all the leagues). FWIW, I just bought FIFA WC 2006 today... will see how it is .

When the price drops on FIFA WC 2006 for the 360, I'll get it. I'm not above spending the $60 on a game, but I just don't know if I'd get $60 of value out of that game.

I know this is about a completely different company and a completely different type of game, but I feel like I got burned on my $60 purchase of MLB 2K6, and I'm scared of having that happen again with a game that I'm just not quite sure about. I've been happy with all my other XBox 360 purchases, but MLB 2K6 was just not a good one for me.

Maybe I can get some decent trade-in credit or something.

That's what I did - traded in Ghost Recon and Tiger Woods - got it for $13 + tax
