HOUSTON -- Enron Corp. founder Ken Lay, who was convicted last month of fraud and conspiracy for his part in the Houston-based company's collapse into bankruptcy in 2001, has died of a heart attack at his vacation home in Colorado, a Houston television station reported on Wednesday.
KHOU-TV, a CBS affiliate, said Lay suffered a massive heart attack. He was awaiting sentencing later this year and was expected to face a lengthy prison term for his convictions in the Enron collapse. |

You know how cynical I have become when my list of possible explanations goes...
A) Fake heart attack, moving out of the country to aviod prison B) Suicide C) Killed off by government or other Enron execs to keep him quiet D) Actual heart attack |

It would have been nicer to at least seem him do a few months in federal pound me in the ass prision before he succumbed(if he was going to die). He didn't really get punished for his crimes. Though I'm sure (depending on what you believe) god will take care of it.

Actually, his VACATION home (how the hell is still allowed to roam after being convicted to roam? And how does he still has this home is beyond me, should be sold and the profits be given to Enron) in Aspen (which is a very, very wealthy playground). |

So, any chance we could get the body put in a cell anyways? Buried in a prison courtyard for the term of his sentence?
One of those two would work for me.

I think every employee and shareholder that was profoundly impacted by the Enron scandal should be given a baseball bat. The body should then be placed in an open field, and each bat-wielding victim gets 30 seconds to make like Peter from Office Space on the copy-machine-formerly-known-as-Ken-Lay.

While I believe he was an asshat in life, I'm not at all compelled to dance on his grave now that he's dead.

I would have liked to have seen atleast one headline that read: Ken Lay Dead. It's the little things that I find humorous.

I'm waiting for one to say that God gave Lay the death penalty or something like that.
That would really make my day. ![]() /tk

I heard today on Marketplace that his death apparently nullifies all of the active criminal and civil actions against him, essentailly wiping his record completely clean.
That's right - Ken Lay now has a spotless criminal record and can never be convicted posthumously of a crime. This will impact how any future civil actions against his estate are tried - since legally he was never convicted of any crime related to Enron. Now how suspicious does that heart attack look? (F) Killed by his offspring/benefactors to protect thier inheritance. |

I'm torn. On one hand, it's pretty morbid news, and pretty tasteless to celebrate or make jokes about his death.
On the other hand, I think of the hundreds, if not thousands, if not tens of thousands or more, of people whose savings, livelihoods, or even lives were put at risk and then tossed aside due to the greedy, self-serving, illegal and selfish actions of this man and others. |

Why are the dead placed on some pedastal? If I can mock someone while they live, why can't I mock their corpse just as much? I don't understand why dying should all the sudden make someone untouchable.

Sorry to do a little thread necromancy on an old thread, but this does beg an interesting question. I guess it's because they can't defend themself- kindof like not talking behind someone's back. SI

With all the money Lay had he was planning this his entire trial. I'm sure he was happy it dragged on so he had more time to plan his "death."
They can make a movie out of it called, "Sleeping with the enema." |
