Soccer Rule Question

I'm playing World Eleven 9, and I'm enjoying how many things this game does right. Anyway, I just had one of my defenders try to clear it backwards because I had no other good tactical choice. He kicked it into the corner flag and it hit the post and bounced back towards one of their guys who was presumably going to play it. However, a whistle blew and the opposition got a throw in from the corner. What happens in real life when a ball hits one of the corner flags and bounces back into play?

Assuming it doesn't go out of play and come back in you simply continue playing.

Darn, I was afraid that was the answer. I kind of feel like this glitch cheated the AI out of a good goal scoring opportunity. Oh well. At least, this is the first time I've seen that in 40 plus matches.

Here you go...

IX - The Ball In and Out of Play

Ball Out of Play

The ball is out of play when:
  • it has wholly crossed the goal line or touch line whether on the ground or in the air
  • play has been stopped by the referee
Ball In Play

The ball is in play at all other times, including when:
  • it rebounds from a goalpost, crossbar or corner flagpost and remains in the field of play
  • it rebounds from either the referee or an assistant referee when they are on the field of play

Playing them all out. I played this quite a lot during my recent 18 day vacation.

Oh yeah, I don't feel bad for the A-holes. They beat me 3-2 (despite going to a defensive 4-5-1 once I had the 2-1 lead.)

It's over now. My first 2 days at the new job have passed, and I'm loving it. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending upon your perspective), I'm so busy I doubt I'll be on here much (if at all) during the day on weekdays. The docs are expected to carry a much larger caseload at this clinic than any place I've ever worked before. However, all of the social workers carry a large caseload as well, the nurses help me work very efficiently with the tasks they do and everyone is working hard. It is quite nice when everyone is working hard and doing a good job which hasn't always been my experience in state clinics.

Playing, reffing, and watching soccer for well over 10 years I can honestly say I've seen the ball hit the corner flag and stay in play no more than seven or eight times in my life. (and that includes times where it's rolling really slowly and leans up against the flag)

I really wouldn't be worried about this "glitch".
