IWS #140 - The results

1. Name an American League baseball team other than the Yankees or Red Sox.

Nothing like an eliminator right off the bat. ESPN is now reporting that the Cubs, Giants and Mets are in the National League.

White Sox - 24
Tigers - 3
Cubs - 2
Mets - 1
Twins - 1
A's - 1
Orioles - 1
Giants - 1
Indians - 1
I work for ESPN, and I am unaware that there are any other teams in the AL other than New York or Boston - 0

2. If you had the #1 overall pick in your fantasy football draft this year, who would you take?

Somewhat odd result as the consensus #1 pick from most experts managed only a fourth place finish...

Ladanian Tomlinson - 12
Peyton Manning - 9
Shaun Alexander - 7
Larry Johnson - 5
Reggie Bush - 1
Vince Young - 1

3. Paris Hilton recently released a single, making her the latest in a long line of celebrities to try their hand at a singing career. Which celebrity's singing effort was the worst of them all?

Hm... see, I thought the inclusion of Paris Hilton as an example would imply that you were supposed to pick somebody other than her. But the question didn't say that, so...

Paris Hilton - 10
David Hasselhoff - 5
William Shatner - 5
Eddie Murphy - 2
Don Johnson - 2
Carl Lewis - 2
Shaquille O'Neal - 2
John Daly - 1
Bruce Willis - 1
Ron Artest - 1
Rosanne Barr - 1
Kelly Osbourne - 1
Russell Crowe - 1
Lindsay Lohan - 1

4. Kids are notoriously picky eaters. Name a food that all kids like.

I'm thinking that one person misread the question.

Pizza - 13
Hotdogs - 7
Ice cream - 5
Peanut Butter and Jelly - 3
French fries - 2
Mac + cheese - 2
Burgers - 1
Pancakes - 1
Brocoli - 1

5. When the year is over, which movie will have been the #1 box office hit of 2006?

Probably not surprising considering Superman had just come out. Oddly enough, the current box office king for the year received only two votes.

Superman Returns - 13
Pirates of the Carribean - 12
Da Vince Code - 5
X-Men Last Stand - 2
Cars - 1
United 93 - 1
Spiderman 3 - 1

6. When the results for this IWS are posted, how many of the six questions will you have picked the top answer for?

I have no idea why the top answers were six and four, but five only had one vote.

6 - 11
4 - 9
3 - 8
1 - 4
5 - 1
2 - 1
0 - 1

A perfect score would be 5,353,920. We had 35 entries, and no duplicates.

The loser lounge: MIJB is so bad at this game that he can't even lose intentionally.
Code:
hukarez : 1 x 12 x 1 x 1 x 13 x 9 = 1,404 MIJB#19 : 2 x 7 x 10 x 1 x 1 x 11 = 1,540 Silver Owl : 1 x 12 x 5 x 2 x 13 x 1 = 1,560 colt45 : 24 x 1 x 2 x 1 x 5 x 9 = 2,160 Scarecrow : 1 x 5 x 10 x 7 x 1 x 11 = 3,850 BrianD : 1 x 7 x 1 x 7 x 12 x 9 = 5,292 spleen1015 : 1 x 12 x 2 x 2 x 13 x 9 = 5,616

The practice squad: QuikSand has clearly lost a step. Sad, really.
Code:
LoneStarGirl : 24 x 1 x 1 x 7 x 12 x 8 = 16,128 chinaski : 1 x 7 x 2 x 13 x 13 x 9 = 21,294 QuikSand : 24 x 12 x 1 x 5 x 2 x 9 = 25,920 KWhit : 24 x 9 x 10 x 13 x 1 x 1 = 28,080 marshall881 : 3 x 5 x 2 x 7 x 13 x 11 = 30,030 GoSeahawks : 24 x 9 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 9 = 58,320 st.cronin : 24 x 9 x 5 x 2 x 5 x 8 = 86,400 Butter_of_69 : 3 x 9 x 2 x 13 x 12 x 11 = 92,664

Semi-respectable: Note vtbub and Pyser managing identical scores even though they only agreed on one question. Weird.
Code:
Toddzilla : 24 x 7 x 2 x 7 x 5 x 9 = 105,840 stevew : 24 x 5 x 1 x 13 x 12 x 8 = 149,760 vtbub : 24 x 9 x 5 x 13 x 12 x 1 = 168,480 Pyser : 24 x 12 x 1 x 5 x 13 x 9 = 168,480 Coffee Warlord : 2 x 12 x 10 x 7 x 12 x 11 = 221,760 Raven Hawk : 24 x 5 x 5 x 3 x 12 x 11 = 237,600 Vince : 3 x 7 x 10 x 13 x 12 x 8 = 262,080 wheels : 24 x 12 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 8 = 288,000 ahbrady : 24 x 9 x 2 x 5 x 13 x 11 = 308,880 JeeberD : 24 x 7 x 5 x 3 x 12 x 11 = 332,640 oliegirl : 24 x 12 x 5 x 2 x 13 x 9 = 336,960 Logan : 24 x 12 x 1 x 13 x 13 x 8 = 389,376 PackerFanatic : 24 x 12 x 10 x 13 x 2 x 8 = 599,040

The big shots: kcchief apparently confused this with the RWBL and finished fourth out of force of habit.
Code:
lighthousekeeper : 24 x 9 x 10 x 5 x 12 x 8 = 1,036,800 albionmoonlight : 24 x 5 x 5 x 13 x 13 x 11 = 1,115,400 hoopsguy : 24 x 7 x 5 x 13 x 13 x 9 = 1,277,640 kcchief19 : 24 x 9 x 5 x 13 x 12 x 9 = 1,516,320 Passacaglia : 24 x 12 x 10 x 7 x 13 x 11 = 2,882,880

So close... Sorry Des, everybody knows you don't take QBs first overall in fantasy drafts.
Code:
Desnudo : 24 x 9 x 10 x 13 x 13 x 11 = 4,015,440

The champion: Who's correct prediction of 4/6 was enough to win.
Code:
kingfc22 : 24 x 12 x 10 x 13 x 12 x 9 = 4,043,520

Congratulations kingfc22.

I didn't vote for her, but that one Anti-date rape song she did was hilarious. Even though the subject matter is serious.

I considered fudging the numbers to the joke would work better.

I got a big 1 on the baseball question and it went downhill from there on. Clearly I know nothing about average americam kids food taste, while backing out of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 didn't help either.

Yeah, maybe I should stick with that from here on, saying it was intentional. :o

I don't know ... his take on Elton John's "Rocket Man" could given anybody a run for their money.
