All Time Favorites #2: Ice Cream

Simple. Just post what your favorite all-time ice cream flavor is. Can add in HM (honorable mention) if you like.

My favorite is HOMEMADE peach.

Well for me it's hard to get much better than Mayfield Moose Tracks. But my HM would be Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate from Baskin Robins was my favorite growing up. Now I love the Peanut Butter Hot Fuedge Sundae's at Braums. Not that I've been able to have one in forever...

There also used to be a Godiva Dark Chocolate Cheesecake ice cream that was amazing, but I haven't seen it in forever.

Cookie Dough is my favorite. I think Ben & Jerry's still makes the best cookie dough ice cream, and they just came out with a larger serving size of it too! Right on their heels though is Edy's, Turkey Hill and Blue Bunny. Blue Bunny in particular recently came out with an excellent new cookie dough is cream that has a ribbon of cookie dough in it that tastes like it is straight out of a bowl of homemade cookies.

HM goes to Cookies & Cream.

Rather have fresh custard. Butter Pecan, Red Raspberry or just plain vanilla with hot fudge...

If I have to have ice cream.. I'd say Cake Batter Ice Cream...

I'm suprised that I'm the only Breyers lover so far. To me, their ice cream is the highest quality, and doesn't have that awful, fake, gummy taste to it.

I am something of a an ice cream aficionado. I have an ice cream maker at home that I love to tinker with, and I've tasted just about every store-bought ice cream, along with a ton of ice cream parlor's offerings, and nothing comes close to Breyers for me.

Different people, different tastes.

If you are an aficionado with an ice cream maker, have you ever made a strange sounding flavor that really was awesome?

Jalepeno, pineapple/mango, etc...

Every time I've had Breyers I always wonder why I bought it. Their "chunky" ice creams (like the ones with candy bits in it) never has many chunks in it.

My favorite is Homemade Brand Peanut Butter and Chip.

Rocky Road or Cookies and Cream come close.

All of you cookie dough ice cream fans are going to fall victim to e. coli, or is it salmonella...

hxxp:///www.salmonella.org

Q: It seems that, based on other FAQs, there is a chance of getting Salmonella from raw eggs, so how concerned should I be about licking the spoon after mixing chocolate chip cookies? Also, should I be concerned about Salmonella in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream, or does the fact that this dough is frozen perhaps alleviate the concern for contracting Salmonella in this case?
  • A: The eggs are now pasteurized before use in commercial ice cream (including componants of ice cream like cookie dough). Freezing can decrease the number of viable Salmonella. but other components like milk protein, etc can protect the Salmonella. so this is not an effective way of decontamination. The risk from raw eggs varies greatly depending upon the number of eggs used, the part of the country you are from, and other factors. There have been cases of Salmonellosis attributed to foods made with raw eggs, including key lime pie, mayonnaise, caesar salad, andlicking utensils from uncooked foods. The risk of acquiring Salmonellosis from licking a spoon may be small, but there is indeed some risk if raw (unpasteurized or unirradiated) eggs are used.
You're probably safe...probably
