2006 FOFC Alternate Rules Football in Yahoo

Ok, I'm starting out this year's version of my "alternate rules" fantasy football league for FOFC. Last season, the Rafini Express steamrolled the rest of the league; led by Tomlinson, Palmer, Hasselbeck, and a solid receiving corps. But now we're onto a new year and it's not a keeper league so everything resets.

FYI: Until Tuesday night, preference goes to teams who were in the league last year but after that, it's open to anyone. Post below to get on the "waiting list".

For those of you who have played in my leagues before, you know the league runs a little different than most, at least with regards to football (I think my baseball leagues are pretty standard). I've always hated the stereotypical fantasy football leagues where the first two rounds are a mad scramble for RBs, the 12th best QB in the league is useless in a 10 team league, and WRs are crap outside of a couple of studs. Not the case here, as I've been trying to perfect my formula and I think it's getting better each year but it's definitely non-standard.

Lastly, gotta have active owners: if you've played in a league I've been in and quit, unless you PM me with a good explaination, you'll be kicked out of the league before draft day and your spot will go to someone else. Both fantasy baseball leagues I'm running this year have only 1 inactive owner (tho one person has a decent excuse) and it makes them a lot more fun and competitive. Check the draft date, too, since I've seen a lot of people not check it and then drop out because they didn't get the team they wanted. So, please, only join if you're going to be able to draft and play.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE LEAGUE RULES BEFORE YOU JOIN AND AGAIN BEFORE THE DRAFT! I'll try to outline the major changes made below but any writeup will be somewhat incomplete. I've been trying to make sure and balance out the three main positions. It's not perfect but it's a lot better than what's out there, in my opinion:
* From last year's thread: "I tried not to tweak things too much pointswise but there are a few changes from the default. I've lessened TDs a little (6 pts-> 5) so that yards are worth more comparatively. Ints and fumbles are just -1 now. Field goals are worth 4/5 (long) instead of 3/4 since kickers were kindof worthless before. WRs yards are 10 for a point versus RBs being 15 (and QB at the default 50) because WRs never get much of a shake in fantasy leagues either."
* First thing you'll notice is 2 QBs- your 2nd and even 3rd QB does matter, just as much as your 2nd and 3rd RBs. No more mad scramble solely for RBs.
* There are 3 WRs and no flex. Not only that but WRs are worth 10/1 versus 15/1 for RBs and 40/1 for QBs
* Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done with TE's- if I could put a blanket 1.5* multiplier on them, I would, but as it stands, TE's kindof suck out loud
* There are kindof 2 tiers of players: QBs/RBs/WRs and Ks/DEFs/TEs. The first are worth slightly more as they are believed to be more important. However, those second tiers are still worth big points, especially good ones, and can offset a bad week by a top tier player.
* There's a lot of emphasis on positional scarcity- 2 of pretty much everything in a 10 taem league means 20 QBs, 20 RBs, 20 Ks, and 20 DEFs will be starting each and every week which only leaves 10 in the pool at max. You only get 6 bench spaces so use them well- no hoarding that 4th K or even 3rd K if it means dropping that injured RB who's about to come back or that backup for your stud who you have as a 4th RB.

Also, a couple of changes versus last year:
* Went with 2 DEF's and 2 K's instead of 1 of each like last year.
* QBs are now 4/TD and 40/1 with a 5 point bonus for 300 yards. In short, yards worth a little more, TDs worth a little less, and a bonus for big games.
* Defenses are a little more spread out- last year they all seemed to be worth about the same, this time there's a bit more separation as a good team will get you more and a bad team will get you less
* Kickers got their points boosted a little, too, but not much.

If you just want the Cliff's notes version, here it is:
* 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR as primary positions with yards weighted 40/15/10 to help out WRs some and TDs at 4/5/5.
* 2 DEF, 2 K, 1 TE as secondary positions but still worth decent points, tho only elite TE's are worth something- unfortunately, I can't do much about that
* Only 6 bench spots with a lot of starters so you'll have to know your team

Ok, after that novella, looks like we're ready to go. Remember, until Tuesday, preference goes to teams from last year but after that, it's open to anyone. Post if you want to get on the "waiting list".

Looks like everyone who posted here is in and that gets us to 10. Just join up in the next couple of days. If we still have openings this weekend, I'll open it back up.

Post with your team name below so that I can make sure who posted is who is in (since Y! names can be different than FOFC and all)

Just a bump to see if anyone who posted above didn't get in as I'm not sure if we have an extra team or two who signed up and wasn't on the list.

Also, make sure you'll be available for the draft date.

I just found out I'll have a local live draft that same day at 2:00 EST. I'd like to stick in the league and can set up my rankings for the draft, but I'll understand if you'll want to get somebody that can be there live.

If you're willing to make a long enough draft list and stick with your team, go for it. You also stomped all of us flat last year so maybe we need a little help

Bump as the draft is in less than 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, Toddiec won't be able to play so we're looking for a 10th team. First come, first serve, I suppose.

Shouldn't be an issue, molson, as we lost someone and that's why we had the spot.

As long as you stay active, no big deal. You don't have a great team but you don't have an awful team either.

Speaking of which, anyone with thoughts on their team? Other teams? Who's the team to beat? Trades, etc?

This was the hardest draft I can remember - all of my picks felt I like I was taking guys too early.

I really need McNabb to revert to pre-TO fantasy form. And I probably need to find a WR starter on waivers at some point.

Well, in a typical league, you have everyone pick RBs for 20 of the first 25 picks. This way, it's a different ballgame- you actually have to think about your picks rather than get in the RB conga line and just hope the guy who falls to you doesn't get hurt.
