We're going to Schlitterbahn and can't decide whether to stay in San Antonio or New Braunfels. We're Gold Key members of Drury Inns (which are pretty good motels--hot breakfast with eggs!), but that's 23 miles away. Would you stay in New Braunfels or San Antonio?

Our normal modus operendi is to go to the park in the morning, go back to the motel for lunch, and then go back to the park in the late afternoon or evening. We also like staying at a motel with suites. I'd much rather pay $40 more per night to stay in a suite than a regular motel. Where should we stay?

If there is a hotel in north SA or Universal City, those aren't that far away from New Braunfels. I think the 23 miles is city center to city center.

Universal City (my in-laws live there) or even Schertz might be a possibility. My sister-in-law was a lifeguard at Schlitterbahn a few summers back and didn't have any problem doing the trip from Universal City so it's doable.

The clinching factor for me would be whether or not you plan to do any sight-seeing in San Antonio. If not, then the closer to Schlitterbahn the better. If you do want to go to the Alamo, Sea World or Fiesta Texas, then Universal City would probably be the best choice.

Small world. My grandparents live in Universal City and I'm going to Schlitterbahn this weekend.

Of course I'm staying with my in-laws north of Austin.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think we'll be doing any site seeing, so I'll check out Universal City. For some reason I thought Universal City was in CA because my beer addled mind read SA as CA and Universal City as Universal Studios yesterday.
