Making things exciting....

Most of you knew that Telle was expecting our second child, well last night about 11:30 she went into labor. Good strong contractions about 10 minutes apart, so she took a shower, relaxed and prepared herself for the upcoming ordeal.

By about 3am we knew this was definitely happening, so she called her mother who came over to watch Cassandra our eldest, called her doula to let her know where things were and I made sure we had all our bags ready and things were ready to go.

Mom arrives and we talk while we measure her contractions coming along at 6 minutes apart for a good hour, we decide its time to go to the hospital, which due to our choice of providers, is 40 minutes away on the freeway.

They say no problem, we'll meet you there, I take a shower and get dressed and we load up. Telle's contractions start becoming MUCH stronger and more frequent.

I get us on the freeway and do a steady 75-80mph, no traffic to speak of at 4:15 in the morning, so things are going well, or so I think.

Telle is listening to her hypno-birthing CD to help her relax, when she has a couple very strong contractions and says to me "If yer not going faster already, you might want to go faster NOW"

I floor it.

I'm running damned near 100mph on the open freeway, slowing for some rather heavy fog banks that crop up. She tells me "I'm pushing!" at about 10 miles out, "I'm CROWNING!" at 2 miles from the exit.

I take the exit at 55mph, slow to 30 to blow through the toll booths, I yelled to the guy "We're having a baby NOW I'm going to the hospital, and he nods and smiles and does nothing further.

I run 55 through town and pull into the hospital entrance. I run to the entrance and get a wheel chair, run back with it and Telle looks at me rather paniced and says "The head is out that chairs not going to work."

I run back and tell the desk lady to get people down here as she's having the baby IN OUR CAR!

I run back and hold the babies head just enough to keep it off the seat so it wouldn't get brush burned or injured by it and she has a couple more contractions, I look around for people, nobody.

She contracts again, baby flops into my hands.

I promptly lay him up on her chest and turn around to find 6 people running towards us.

The midwife, and 5 others on duty all up in arms at the situation.

At 4:49 am EDT in Batavia, NY, *I* delivered my son, Aemon Quinn Moyer, into this world. He came in at a whopping 10 lbs 1 oz and a staggering 23 inches in length.

It was QUITE a night.

I think what I appreciate most was that she kept her cool long enough for me to do 100+ on the freeway and get you TO the hospital , albeit just to the parking lot, before she actually gave birth.

how many other women would have been raving freaking lunatics in the car?

Well, I have a dog named Aegon so it was the first thing that struck me. Well, second, after reading about the birth madness.

Congrats! I nearly had a similar experience when my daughter was born a little over three months ago. Fortunately, we got to my midwife's house with about an hour to spare, so I didn't have to "catch" or anything, but there were times on that drive up US 23 going 75-80 where I was wondering if I was going to have to. My wife was using the "hang-on" bar over her seat for all its literal worth.

Wow, I'd be so panicked. That's one of the worries I have about a baby... I'm so horrible with orientation and finding how to get somewhere... if I had to rush and drive someone to a hospital like that, I'd probably end up at the opposite end of where I was supposed to go. :P
