I once carted back $600 in quarters from a casino in Shreveport because I didn't trust the Louisiana based casinos to count them correctly. Louisana is known all too well as a corrupt gambling location. I had 7 of those tubs full of quarters to bring back.

I take it you won them on a slot machine or video poker machine. Do you remember which machine you won them on? (I work for a slot machine manufacturing company, so I like to find out if people are hitting their wins on our machines)

Do you work for the company that makes the Wheel of Fortune game? I've been wanting to buy one of those for the house. The only other ones I can find that I'm interested in are the Red, White and Blue series.

Actually, no, that would be the 800 lb gorilla in our market, IGT. I work for WMS Gaming. We're fighting for the #2 spot with Aristocrat. Our 'big' game is Monopoly. Some of the other ones you might have seen are the Clint Eastwood series, Men in Black, and we just released Powerball, which hasn't yet made it to all the markets.

I doubt that you'll be able to buy a Wheel of Fortune game as the slot manufacturing industry is highly regulated and we can't even sell games to people who don't have gaming licenses (your average consumer). If you had a shot to get one, it would be used through a shady outfit that doesn't abide by gaming regulations. The reason that its regulated is to ensure the integrity of the game. If they were sold to consumers, the consumers could break it open in the privacy of their own home to try to figure out tampers and cheats on the machines.

I guess I'm confused then. How are they able to sell refurbished slots? The Red/White/Blue series are for sale to private parties, and they are still used in casinos. But I haven't seen any of the slots like Monopoly, Elvis, WoF, etc. for sale. Is there a different set of regs for them?

Sometimes it depends upon the jurisdiction that you live in. Different jurisdictions have different gaming regulations. So, if the jurisdiction/state that you live in allows private parties to own games, you have the right to. However, remember that it's not in the casinos or the manufacturer's best interest to sell these games, since they don't want their games to have cheats discovered. Most often, a casino will swap the game back to the manufacturer for new games, but sometimes they'll sell them to a third party warehouse that then resells them.

Here is a list at Wikipedia of state gaming rules for slot ownership. As you can see, many states outright ban the sale, some others require that the machines be 25 years old or more. Note that just because their legal, doesn't mean that their not regulated by the local gaming board. hxxp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._state_slot_machine_ownership_regulations

Another thing to note is that to buy a new slot machine, you're looking at about $10k to $12k to purchase. If you're looking for used games, you're still probably looking at a minimum of 3k for an older game and 7k-8k for a newer game (for casino level quality).

And finally, if you are even looking at buying a Wheel of Fortune game which is a WAP (Wide Area Progressive), you'd need to hook into the Progressive Network to be eligible for the progressive jackpots.

Yeah, for Texas, the only limit is no more than 5 machines in a single location. Any machine, any age is legal. I saw RWB machines for around $1200 that had been refurbed, and more importantly, had their EEPROMs cleared of history. I'd only be interested in a used machine, so that's probably why I haven't seen any of the newer styles out there. I'm not interested in the progressive portion, more in the having the "second" game that plays if you get the correct symbol. If it is only a progressive game, that's probably another reason I haven't seen any for sale.

Thanks for the info. It always helps to get the perspective from someone on the inside.

Yes, the EPROM is where all the proprietary software is. So if its been refurbed, it probably has some code altered in the new EPROM. Our EPROM room is as tight as Fort Knox.

Another thing about the WoF games is that IGT has licensed the "brand" from Merv Griffin Enterprises, so I'm not sure if there is any resale clause in their license agreement. I'd think that MGE would want their cut, either that or they may have a no-resale clause in the agreement. The RWB brand is owned by the manufacturer, so you'll see more of those available.

?

If you didn't trust them to count them, why did you trust them to gamble there in the first place?
