Sporting News also featured a mock-cover ad this week for the movie which looks like it is the genuine thing at first glance.

This looks like it will be a great comedy, but the advertising exposure is pretty overwhelming. It seems like I have seen the entire movie between all the ads and promos and television appearances. It almost reminds me of when the Star Wars: Episode 1 came out, in that I am just about sick of hearing about and seeing it before it even comes out.

Anchorman has incredibly funny parts to it. The movie, in its entirety, is not a classic, but some of the lines certainly are.

Where I'd rank recent Will Ferrell movies:
1. Anchorman
2. Old School
3. Elf
4. Talladega Nights
5. Kicking and Screaming
(did not see Bewitched or Melinda and Melinda)

The movie was ok. When you laugh, you laugh, but it wasn't consistently funny throughout. Credit to Ferrell for going all out for a laugh and he hits them all, but overall it was just a pretty weak movie.

Anchorman was a let down for me in theatres, but once I watched it again on DVD, I enjoyed it more.

To me, Old School is the gold standard for the "frat pack."

It went by at a pretty good pace for me, so I'd say it was worth seeing in the theatre.

I particularly liked all the variants on saying grace to "baby Jesus."

Melinda and Melinda is not your typical Will Ferrell movie, by that I mean he isn't playing some crazy character. He is actually quite subdued in M&M. For awhile I thought there wasn't a script that Ferrell was turning down, as Kicking and Screaming was horrendous.

I didn't mind Kicking and Screaming, but it was definitely not what I was expecting. At the time it didn't seem like it was advertised as such, but it was clearly a kids' movie.

The Movieguide.org publisher said Will Ferrell's "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" is "a racist, bigoted work that ridicules the Bible Belt, Southern white men, Christianity, Jesus Christ, the family, and American masculinity."

Baehr said the lead character's mocking prayer to baby Jesus shows anti-Christian bigotry and wonders why Hollywood isn't treating Will Ferrell like it's treated Mel Gibson, who has apologized for his anti-Semitic outburst.

"Don't count on Hollywood (or the news media, for that matter) to condemn and denounce Will Ferrell and his partner, writer and director Adam McKay. And, don't expect any self-righteous liberals to get on their soapbox and say that they will never work with Farrell or McKay, or see one of their movies," Baehr said in his review.

He said that "Talladega Nights" is one of the most "blasphemous, politically correct major movies ever released by a major Hollywood studio."

He continued his rant, saying that Hollywood and the the mainstream media stood by silently while Dan Brown and Ron Howard mocked Christian beliefs and Roman Catholic leaders in "The Da Vinci Code" and when Martin Scorsese claimed in "The Last Temptation of Christ" that Jesus was a "mixed-up" and "weak-minded" wimp.

On it's Web site, Moviegude describes itself as:

"Talladega Nights" tells the tale of Ricky Bobby, a man who was born when his Daddy was racing his Ma to the hospital and got so carried away by speed that a quick slam on the brakes is all it took to pop little Ricky out, according to WFTV.com reviewer Deb Scott. His Daddy takes a powder shortly after he is born, and as a result, Ricky grows up with a hero worship complex and the need for speed.

An emergency at a racetrack where he works pushes Ricky behind the wheel of a NASCAR vehicle in the middle of a race and everything just clicks, including a phrase his drunken Daddy once said to him -- "If you ain't first, you're last." So begins the raucous rise and fall of Ricky Bobby.

Meanwhile, John C. Reilly said he had no idea NASCAR was so popular until he made "Talladega Nights."

He was surprised to hear that some fans camp out for days before a race and turn it into an event. Reilly used to wonder why anyone would watch cars race in a circle, but now he said he knows "there's so much more going on than that."

So I saw the movie in Africa over Labor Day. I saw the scene early in the movie where a very young Ricky Bobby takes the wiffle ball bat and presses the gas pedal. I know I saw it.

We had the father in law over a few nights ago and we're watching the movie...I figured there were probably a lot of parts I missed in the version we saw out there. Instead, I don't see the wiffle ball bat scene.

Did they cut that out? Am I missing something? Should I go back to my sweet khat?

I hated this movie, but then again I also hated Anchorman and Napoleon Dynamite and I refused to see Borat.

From that you would assume I hate and/or don't get stupid movies - but I do like some stupid movies quite a bit (which is why I een bothered watching the others) such as Wedding Crashers, Dumb and Dumber, Dodgeball, Kicking and Screaming.

I just watched this for the first time last night on DVD, and I didn't see a scene like that in the film or any of the deleted scenes. I seem to remember that scene in previews, though.

As I recall, on the "screen" it was between his birth and his dad showing up at the school.

Interesting enough, if I'm not mistaken, it's part of the one-liners special feature, or whatever it was.

Hmm...I just rented it about a week or so ago & I dont recall this scene either.

Hilarious movie to me...but that might be because I dun growed up in da south. The characters in the movie are funny exagerrations of some people I've met.

I'll have to fire it up in the ol magic disk player to be sure, but, if I remember correctly the scene right before is when his mom gives birth to Ricky in the car and the scene right after is the bring your dad to school day scene.

Edit: Ok just checked. It is between those two scenes at 1 minute 43 seconds according to my dvd player.
