The "Computer" they're talking about in the story is my company's product, a touch screen kiosk that automates the check-in process at a doctor's office and also automatically verifies the patient's insurance, and will soon allow the patient to pay their co-pay by credit card while checking in in most cases. They show someone using the touch screen kiosk in the video. I'm responsible for the back end connecivity that does the work of verifying a patient's insurance, and am also working on the project to allow you to pay your co-pay at the kiosk.

They never mention my company by name unfortunately, but we're a small startup, and seeing this stuff, even in local news, is exciting, I had to share

TAMPA - Imagine if checking into your doctor's office was as simple as swiping a card, like the electronic check-in at most airports.

Well, that's what it's like right now at one Tampa physician's office, and it may be the wave of the future.

Sara Mourat learned the new check-in system at Dr. Karon LoCicero's South Tampa office.

The system looks a little like an ATM at the bank - and it's supposed to make check-in quicker.

Dr. LoCicero says, "I was interested because I see 75 to 80 patients a day in my practice and there's always a time delay with patients checking in to verify insurance and it takes five to ten minutes per person to verify insurance."

With this system the patient presses the name of their insurance company, then types in their name and the computer verifies your insurance for you.

No paper work, no phone calls, no hassles.

Sara says, "I think it's wonderful. It saves time and you don't have to sit there and write through all those forms. You are just checked in and they know you are here. They call your name when the doctor is ready."

Patients can also enter their own medical history.

Established patients can enter updated medical history and eventually their insurance card will be used as a credit card and they will also be able to use the system to pay co-pays.

The doctor says, I think it mostly will help with efficiency - be able to spend more time with the patients if we can bring them back quicker. We can also be more accurate with our referrals, knowing what their health plan is."

While Dr. LoCicero says about 90% of her patients are now using the new system, there will still be a person behind the desk to answer questions.
