La Guardia v JFK

I'm flying New York to Detroit and back in late September. Can fly in and out of either LGA or JFK. Been to JFK before, but not LGA. Any thoughts please on which is the better (ease, efficiency, etc) of the two? I have always found JFK pretty good but wanted to ask the brains trust here... (I'll be flying in and out on Sundays if that helps)

Thanks.

Seriously...go into Newark if it's feasible for where you're going after the airport.

LGA is much closer to Manhattan. This means much shorter drive and much cheaper taxi ride. Also, planes tend to take off on time more at LGA and it doesn't take planes as long to get to their runways. As far as the airports themselves, neither is a palace or anything, but both are fine.

I agree with Newark if it's possible, otherwise I am more of a LGA fan than JFK.

I go JFK a lot for the JetBlue deals and such, but really all three (including Newark) have their respective headaches depending on where you're going. I'd let price/preferred airline be the deciding factor and just deal with whatever airport they're flying into.

In my opinion, LaGuardia is one of the biggest scumpits in airport history.

I always fly into LaGuardia, but echo the sentiments of it basically being the true to life "Mos Eisley". I would fly into JFK but I think it is generally closer for people who are picking us up to have us fly into LaGuardia.

If you are not going into NYC, and your destination is out on Long Island, you can always try Islip.

I am actually flying into La Guardia this Thursday night with my wife for a trip out to Montauk for the holidays. Its the most convenient for me because my in-laws pick us up there.

I guess I'm in the minority on this, but I've found Newark airport to be about the most abysmal traveling experience of my life. An absolute hellhole, and one that I'd try to avoid whenever financially reasonable.

Either way you have to end up seeing New Yorkers so it's pretty much a no win situation for you.
