Lions cut bait on Charles Rogers? I guess this was not unexpected.

No, it's not unexpected, but I wonder how many teams he'll play for this year? Also, Antwon Smith couldn't make the cut in Houston.

Raiders | J. George could be cut and then possibly re-signed
Sat, 2 Sep 2006 06:47:00 -0700

John Clayton, of ESPN, reports the Oakland Raiders could cut QB Jeff George and then possibly re-sign after Week 1 when his salary would not be guaranteed for the whole season. The team sees that George still has a very strong arm.

Drew Henson is expected to be cut by the Cowboys today. Parcells told the press a couple weeks ago that he would no longer be on the roster when the final 53 would be announced. Makes me wonder why though since he was very impressive over in NFLE. I guess he didn't make the process that Parcells thought he should have made while over there.

Anyways, does anyone know a good site where I can see up-to-date transactions? Most of the site I know are not doing a very good job of show who is being cut.

I think nfl.com has been doing OK so far, but I might be missing some transactions without knowing it.

He just wasn't making it here. Romo and Bledsoe were so far above him in terms of progress that he is expendable. I too was suprised to see how slowly he was coming along, but there have been a number of articles about it here in Dallas.

Pats cut LBs Chad Brown and Monty Biesel, despite losing LB Barry Gardner for the season. They also traded RB Patrick Cobb to the Steelers...which can't be good news for Duce Staley. And they cut their 3rd QB, so I assume they'll be picking someone else up soon. Henson maybe? KC's Printers?

Staley still will make the team unfortunately.
The Steelers draft was pretty lousy this year, in regards to who they will end up keeping. They've cut basically their whole 2nd day of picks, and will only go into the season with 2 QB's. I absolutely hate that.

I still dont think Willie Parker can carry the load the entire season. Im hoping staley does make it, just in case.

I thought most of the backup load was going to go to Verron Haynes?

Not at all. Not at all... He never really recovered from that second collar bone break. He just hasn't been the same after it at all. He shows little interest in the game. Marinelli didn't want him.

It's entirely possible that, but for salary cap implications, the Lions would have cut bait on Mike Williams as well. As it stands now Williams is on the roster, but I wouldn't be suprised if he was inactive for the first game of the season.

Yeah, Haynes should get a lot of work. Supposedly Cobbs or Staley will be activated depending on the matchup.

To back up stevew here, I heard on the radio this morning that Bill Cowher has announced that Duce Staley will make the team. I don't really follow the Steelers that closely, so I don't know what effect that'll have on the roster, but it's pretty obvious that Parker and Haynes are the top guys. Unless one of them gets injured, or maybe if Haynes is really ineffective this year, Cobbs and Staley won't get much playing time.

I think it's more likely that Parker could lose his spot, actually.

I suppose. I just figure that, if Parker struggles, he'll become the #2, so Cobbs and Staley still wouldn't really play. If Haynes struggles, he becomes the #3, and then one of the other guys would get a chance. Parker is probably more likely to lose his job, but I'm not sure that that would give Cobbs or Staley a chance to get significant playing time.

Is it absolutely ridicuolus that I think the 49ers might be well served taking a flyer on Charles Rogers and/or Mike Williams if the Lions are disinterested in him from now on?

I don't know if that says more about the crappiness of my team, or my lack of knowledge of whether or not either of these guys can be competent WRs in the NFL.

No. I'd think the same if he wasn't cut by the Lions. Rogers has a lot of talent and showed he could play in this league in his first few starts prior to his first collar bone injury. If he was some how able to regain that edge and a light bulb went on in his head, he could still have some value in this league. The odds of this happening are slight, but worth taking a chance if a team can afford to.

Fred Matua cut by the Lions after leaving USC a year early to enter the draft. Thought it was a bad decision at the time, now his career is probably done. Such a waste.

Omar Jacobs cut by the Steelers, are they allowed to resign him to the practice squad now? Many people thought he would be a big draft sleeper IIRC.

Jacobs can go on the practice squad if he is not claimed by anyone. Cutting him to keep one of Cowher's "special teams aces" is a horrible move.

Umm, they just gave him a big contract, and they hate his backups. He's the guy.

Haynes is not a Bettis type, he has benn their third down back for years and is again this year.

Dallas cut their starter at right tackle last season (Petiti), a guy they gave a $1M bonus to be a backup LB/ST guy, and their 4th/6th round picks.

Not really surprised at all about Green or actually even Boiman. Green didn't show much in the return game (the reason he was drafted), and Boiman fell into a numbers game where they had bigger needs at other spots.

Cutting Pettiti surprises me, though. I suspected they wouldn't keep 5 tackles, but you'd think he would have had at least a little value after the steady improvement he had made over the past year or so.

Have the Packers announced their cuts yet? I haven't found anything yet, but am hoping against hope that Tim Goodwell made the team.

I don't think Parker is going to lose his job because they love the guys behind him, I think he will turn out to be a very pedestrian starting running back.

I don't think you can say Boiman fell into a numbers' game since Dallas kept 9 LB's. I suppose Parcells felt the other rookie FA's and younger players that made the team had a bigger upside.

Davenport and Gardner were my two surpises from GB, although I am not TOO surprised about Najeh. I am sure he will get picked up elsewhere and be a good backup, but I am a little surprise about Rod. I guess GB doesn't like veteran receivers on their team, heh

I'm quite saddened by the news of Weaver being put on IR. I was quite looking forward to seeing him in some backup duty, and think he would have pushed Morris for carry majority if anything were to happen to Alexander.
