I don't think there's much hope of our catching the Tigers.

I'm just wanting us to lock down the wild card.

I think the Royals have just about been the whole difference in the AL Central. They've been a big pain in the ass for the Twins and a bigger pain in the ass for the White Sox. Meanwhile I believe Detroit has beaten the crap out of them.

Sox were 11-8 vs royals this year. and i think the tigers only lost 1 vs them...

but still I believe that there is no doubt we have a chance to catch the tigers and claim the division. All of september left, the tigers arnt playin so hot either.

Our pitchers just aren't the same this year.

The Sox are done. This is the Tigers' year. It's destiny.

The Tigers are going through a horrendous stretch, yet still lead by around 5 games. They're due to heat back up at least a little, and that'll win them the division by the same amount of games or more.

The Twins might have a shot to win the division (although I doubt it) because they have legitimate pitching, but the Sox are toast.

If I'm wrong about this, feel free to bump this thread after the season, and I'll take any abuse you want to dish out without complaint.

Dude, if you just jinxed the Tigers. . .

If this injury hadn't happened with Liriano, I think the Twins were a decent bet to win the whole thing. They've done a great job hanging in there with guys like Baker, Bonser, Garza, Silva, and a battered Radke pitching regularly, but unless they get Liriano back at full strength VERY soon, they're not going to be able to keep it going. I'm amazed they haven't fallen out of it without Liriano for a month. The Twins are a special team this year. Personally I hope they get well enough to finish the job. I've always wanted to see Selig have to hand them the World Series trophy after he tried to contract them.

To be fair, the Royals rolled over for 4 against the Twins a month ago and then swept the Red Sox for 3 and split 4 with the White Sox so I think they've been fairly generous to the Twins

That series aside, they've beaten the Twins six times (and the White Sox eight times and Detroit only once). It's roughly the margin in that division.

I'm not so sure it's Detroit's year though. The Tigers have beaten mediocre/bad teams to an absolute pulp this year, but they've clearly struggled against their fellow AL playoff contenders.

The Tigers are 10-5 versus the Twins.

But also 5-11 vs. the White Sox and 2-5 against the Yankees. 25-28 vs. the top five teams in the AL besides them, which should be a concern for them, especially since they're unlikely to see the Twins in the playoffs. I dunno, I hope I'm wrong -- I hate the Sox and Yankees, but I really think it's going to be one of those two coming out of the AL.
